A laser iridotomy virtually eliminates the risk of a catastrophic angle closure attack, so even if your eye pressures are elevated following the procedure, the likelihood of an angle closure episode is vastly reduced.
They may also consider an iridoplasty at a later date to reduce the plateau iris effect, this can increase drainage and also reduce eye pressures. It's a similar procedure to an iridotomy. I've had these procedures done myself and they did work, but I went on to develop other problems (probably unrelated) which also needed treatment.
Chin up. My eye surgeon told me I was lucky this was identified (although I didn't feel lucky). He said usually the first sign of narrow angles is a closure attack and lost vision. What you're going to have done will almost certainly help.
I also have plateau iris.Whilst the iridotomy was partially successful I then went on to have cataract surgery and goniosynechialysis which was also entirely painless. I'm seeing the consultant tomorrow for follow up. I can already see better with that eye than before although the loss of peripheral vision (luckily on the inside of my right eye so the left eye covers the missing bit!) won't improve.
Hi thanks so much, how long after the the iridotomy did you have to have further treatment ? I’m just trying to prepare myself. Please feel free to message me directly if you your happy to share you experience thanks a bunch x
I had the LPI in June. Went back in August to have it done again as they wanted to make the holes larger. Then they decided that cataract surgery and goniosynechialysis would be more appropriate so they cancelled the second LPI on the day and booked me in for cataract surgery in mid December.
My worry is how are we kept ‘safe’ during all the waiting times? I practically haven’t left my house since October for fear of an angle closure attack ( I do live within 5 minutes of my hospital so that’s probably not helped ) my anxiety is so bad I just don’t feel safe with all the waiting. My iridotomy is on Wednesday next week and I’m already worrying about how long I’ll have to wait to have the check up. X
I had two iridotomies, cataract surgery, and a laser goniosynchialysis . I have had lost vision since my first acute closed angle glaucoma attack on my left eye. My right eye has been left untreated and it is fine. My attack was drug-induced. After an Iridotomy be cautious if you get a steroid for the inflammation. Prednisolone caused my IOP to go up and probably advanced my cataract. Best if they have an alternative to the steroid for the inflammation after surgery.
