non-steroid post procedure

hi everyone

I have my laser iridotomy for both eyes Wednesday next week and absolutely bricking it!

I have had an email from my consultants Pa to say that post iridotomy they will give me NONE steroidal eye drops . . . . Is that ok? What are the benefits of that, just want to make sure I’m safe!

Also . . . I’m having this done with the NHS I wondered what are the timescales for post procedure check?

My anxiety is so severe I don’t think extended waiting will be beneficial to my mental health, do you think I could potentially pay privately to have them checked earlier, or would booking an appointment with the opticians in the interim be a sensible ideas?

thanks for your support

So, presumably a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Perfectly normal and sensible, no?

Not sure why you think you might not be safe.

Also, wouldn't it make sense to wait for the specialist treating you to tell you when they'll want to see you again?

You'll be absolutely fine. NHS opthalmologists are brilliant people.

THANKYOU I only ask because I am new to all of this and never had to have anything like this before so to me, I don’t know what is the ‘norm’

Thanks for taking the time to reply

yes they give you the drops to use after the procedure to prevent any infection, if I recall correctly from when I had mine done (2021 ) it was for a week, easy to use, no issues .

I was nervous initially waiting for mine to be done as had a longer wait and had to chase them up and like you all new to me.

You have yours soon, they are taking care of you, relax it is a routine procedure they carry out loads , don’t worry it will be ok.

Thankyou for your kind words - I can’t believe I’m having this done on Wednesday. It doesn’t seem real somehow. Xxx

I had my own procedure over 20 years ago now. But from what I remember it was very straightforward, quite painless and over very quickly. The eye drops I took afterwards caused no issues and the follow up appointment was too check how successful the procedure had been. In my case I still have to take more eye drops daily to keep my pressures under control. As procedures go this one is quite worrying free.

Hope this helps.

Hi there Thankyou for taking the time to reply to me, I’m glad to hear that it went well for you and the drops are doing there job. My concern is that there is little chance that my angles will not open due to plateau iris configuration, but there’s a small chance I hope

Hello Paula. All attempts contributors have made seem to have failed to relax and reassure you, so here is a practical suggestion. Monday mprning contact the surgeon's secretary and describe yor apprehension and request that you be given a tranquiliser when you arrive on Wednesday. This is often done. It may be helpful to speak to your GP, who may offer you one in the meantime too. I'm sure all will go well.

I’ve come this far, so I won’t be asking for a tranquilliser 🤣 I’m just inviosning the poor. It’s chasing me round with a dart gun 🤣 oh dear

I am relieved that your sense of humour is intact; don't let it fail you on Wednesday!

How are you hope all went well

hi there , thanks so much for your message that’s so kind of you, I just had to mentally check out for a little bit.

The laser went fine, it really was not at all as bad as I had anticipated , dr google really isn’t my friend!

I’m currently on steroid drops 3 times a day, and my pressure was 13 in one eye 15 in the other after laser, I will admit I do feel a little traumatised by the whole experience emotionally, although physically I have been very lucky.

Now got to wait 8 weeks for post laser check to see what’s what, although it’s not sure on what the outcome will be as I have plataue iris configuration

Thanks again for checking on me I really appreciate that a tonne

Hopping you are doing ok?

Paula

Glad it went okay if you read my posts you will see mine isn't so good. And I have been so upset it's so hard to live each day without it being on my mind. Keep posting and let us all know how get on and lots of people to ask if need to. Take care.

I’ve just caught up on reading them, goodness me it’s all happened very fast for you that must be really hard. I too can completely empathise wholeheartedly about it being on your mind everyday, but what I can offer is the fact that your here, asking questions seeking answers shows such a level of resilience you will get through this xx
