plateau iris and narrow angles

hi everyone

I had a laser iridotomy prophylactic for narrow angles and plateau iris

Pressures within normal range at 18 - no vision loss, optic nerve healthy etc

I am supported that post iridotomy my pressures have remained the same. It’s that typical? I’m presumed that ) from reading posts on hear ) that my pressure should have reduced they did immediately after but now returned to baseline. although pressure concerns where never raised by drs. They seem fine with it.

so what have I had the laser done for, as a just in case measure? I have read a letter from my consultant to the gp which states my risk is PACG - primary angle closure glucoma and I’m very worried about the future.

Does anyone else here have plateau iris? I’d be glad to hear you’re experience’s as anxiety is increasing on this issue.

thankyou

I had the same and I believe that the aim is to open up some drainage channels and therefore prevent (further) damage. For me the consultant wasn't happy that the channels had opened enough so I then went on to cataract surgery. I had higher IOP than you both pre and post iridotomy but it has reduced following cataract surgery.

Glad to hear that the pressure has reduced following cataract surgery 🙂 I mentioned lens replacement and iridioplasty to my consultant after I had my laser iridotomy ( like literally afterwards 🤣 ) and he looked at me like I was a mad woman and said no

I’m 38 so wondering whether it might be an option for me down the line?

The worry is because of my plateau iris and very narrow angles am I destined for angle closure glucoma, and I don’t understand what that means truthfully, does that mean loss of sight? I just don’t know.

So I’m frustrated that the consultant doesn’t seem to be proactive enough- but he seems to think he is being because the laser was done prophylactic as he keeps telling me

So I’m not sure if I’m missing the mark 🤷‍♀️

This is almost the same as me. My pressures are 17/18. The consultant told me that the aim is to create another route for fluid to drain. My angles have remained narrow after too which disheartened me, but the consultant said its my anatomy and that they wouldn't open but now there is another path for the fluid and that's the aim so that pressure does not build up. I haven't had headache since the procedure which I'm hoping is a bonus! I have a damaged optic nerve with some vision loss but this was not from the narrow angles.

Same here re anatomy I’m very far sighted too which my optician said makes you have a shorter eyeball which can cause crowding.

I’m just so confused as to why my pressure is back to where I started at 17/18 it makes no logical sense to me, or is it. Cause that’s my eyes baseline?

I have headaches now due to seasonal allergies and sinus problems because I read you can’t take antihistamines 🥲

I haven’t been given any drops or anything have you?

Ahh same I'm +6 both eyes with amblyopia. I also have another eye condition which has caused severe thinning of the optic nerve, that's caused more damage than than the narrow angles. My understanding is that now we have significantly reduced our risk of acute angle closure but we must still be monitored. I was have little attacks they think. Pressures will remain as they are, as like me, you had preventive treatment, not because you have glaucoma.

No there are a list of things we can't do isn't there 🙈 I think if you see your doctor though they can give you alternatives.

I'm not on drops anymore, I was, but because my pressures are ok they took me off them.

I'm only 35 too and I spent a lot of time worrying, but I think by having the procedure we've helped ourselves. My consultant said he would do a lens replacement but he said because of my other condition that caused vision loss, he said it'd be high risk and could cause more complications than needed being so young.

Feel free to message me at anytime 😊 x

I have another eye condition too like you to contend with also! I have IIH which causes swelling of the optic nerve but I’ve been in remission for many years after having a lumbar puncture to drain fluid from my spine, i always feel like I need ‘draining’ spine, now lasers in the eyeballs whatever next!

I think, as much as I’m naffed off with the nhs they only do things when absolutely needed right? Who knows 🤦‍♀️

That’s lovely Thankyou I will 🥰

Ahh I see, I have pseudopapilledema which has crushed my nerves, causing severe thinning. I think we are quite similar here... Unfortunately a club we don't want to be in 🤣 I paid private so I'm monitored more closely.

I'm part of a study in America that is trying to find treatments for all this conditions, hoping that they have a breakthrough in the near future...

No problem 😊 it's stressful when you feel like you're the only one x
