Improved IOP

Since April when I experienced a Closed Angle Glaucoma attack from an OTC nasal spray, my eye pressure has gone up and down. I noticed that when I was given Prednisolone drops, especially for an extended time, my eye pressure shot up to ~50. My normal is about 20. I have since learned that there are "Steroid Responders" where the IOP goes up with glucocorticoids. In addition, my eyes feel dry after I take too many drops with BAK preservative. I have avoided a Trabeculectomy on my bad eye, and an Iridotomy on my "good eye". My vision is still not good on my left eye, but very good on my right eye. I have not done anything to my right eye. I feel that the cataract surgery on my left eye helped, and I am down to two drops (Cosopt PF and Brimonidine Tartrate). This has stabilized my pressure. I have also avoided steroid drops and Prostaglandin analogs. I believe that I had Infectious Uveitis, not Non-Infectious. I understand that Prostaglandin Analogs should not be prescribed for patients with Infectious Uveitis. I have a really good Ophthalmologist /Surgeon now that listens to me and works with me. I also hope that someone will come up with a good answer for Optic Nerve restoration so the vision in my left eye will improve. This is why I wanted to avoid any extremely invasive surgery. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Hi there. Thanks for sharing and it's great to hear that your pressures have stabilised. 'Steroid responders' are quite common, which is why people with glaucoma need to be careful about using them. I'd be interested to hear if you have followed up with your optician post cataract surgery, as the prescription you need can change, due the replacement of the lens. Sometimes this can be why the vision is not as good after having cataract surgery, unless you mean that the vision has deteriorated due to glaucomatous damage to the optic nerve.

My vision deteriorated since I had the drug-induced acute closed angle glaucoma attack. It has not improved, therefore even though I obtained new glasses after the cataract surgery, my vision is still blurry. The photo of the optic nerve disc also confirms damage. In addition, although my pressure has stabilized, my left eye is chronically red. Not sure if it is a response to one of the drops I am taking.
