Canaloplasty

It’s now a week since I had my right cataract removed and canaloplasty in that eye. So far so good! The vision in my right eye is now fantastic (because the cataract has been removed). It is a joy to see bright colours again and as I have worn glasses for short sight since I was 7 its amazing to be able to see clearly without glasses in that eye. Of course, the left eye is extremely short sighted still so I can’t do without my glasses altogether yet. I have a date of December 10th for my left cataract to be done and I can’t wait! The canaloplasty (a procedure where the Schlemm”s canal is enlarged with a catheter) seems to have been pretty effective. The pressure in that eye was 16 yesterday (it was 26 before the procedure). My surgeon thinks that might reduce a bit when I stop using steroid drops so fingers crossed. I have had a pretty rocky road with glaucoma over the last 4 years but I am now feeling cautiously optimistic. As my surgeon said yesterday, there’s light at the end of the tunnel!

Longwalks3 that sounds positive and fingers crossed there is indeed light at the end of your tunnel. It's great you have a date for your second cataract op, how brilliant it will be for you to have good vision in both eyes and not too long to wait. X

Hi Longwalks3, that’s great news that the procedures have gone so well. Good luck with the cataract op for your left eye and here’s to having good vision without glasses very soon 😊

Do you know the name of the device that was used for your canaloplasty? Was it called Omni or ABic? Just wondering, since I advocated for the Omni with Cataract surgery instead of a more invasive procedure like a Trabeculectomy, but I live in the U. S. and the use of the Omni may be more prevalent than in the UK.

I think it must have been ABic as I definitely had a suture tied off under tension. I hadn’t been told those names but Ive done a bit of googling! I found the procedure, which I had done with cataract surgery, surprisingly quick and not at all uncomfortable. I’m due to see my surgeon again next week to have the other cataract done so I will find out how the pressure is doing in the canaloplasty eye a month down the line.
