Had a trab 6 months ago and the blurry vision never disappeared.
Now they want to do cataract surgery and I am hesitant as it may fail the trab surgery that was already done successfully.
Has anybody had an experience with the blurry eye after surgery or pls share your experience with cataract surgery as it reflects on the trabeculectomy surgery?
I would love to know if it was successful and the blurry vision disappeared. Thx

After surgery and recovery period, it is recommended that you visit your opticians to have your prescription checked as it may have changed slightly. I would imagine you have done this already, but if not, just give them a call to make an appointment. If you had already lost a significant amount of vision due to your glaucoma, the trab would not have improved your vision.
There is a small risk the trab may not work as well after the cataract, but if lens replacement is needed, it is important to have it done. The longer a cataract is left, the thick is gets which can cause more complications if left to "ripen"
Any concerns you have regarding the blurred vision and the cataract surgery should be discussed with your consultant.
My opticians will not give me glasses until I have had the cataract removed, as they say its not really worth it, but really could do with new ones. Begining to think it may be best to let nature take its course, or have the eye removed once and for all, so fed up with it all.
I can understand why your optometrist suggested waiting, as glasses are costly and it is very refreshing that they have told you this as they dont want you to waste your money. But if you want to get new glasses rather than waiting, then they will be be able to do this for you. Your eye specialist would not consider an enuclation. This is only ever done in exceptional circumstances.
I had a trab 2 years ago, which left me with blurry vision, which I still have, as well as the cataract, which formed after the op, I now have to have another trab in the same eye, as the bleb is leaking, and was told the next trab will make the cataract worse, but will have the cataract removed at a later date, but that may mess up the 2nd trap op, so just going round in circles really, wish I'd never had the first op now, as I have an ache in the eye and very dry.
Omg…that’s exactly what I am worried about. I am questioning the whole thing and I am frightened the cataract surgery will ruin the trab surgery..and not improve the vision ..thank you for your response. Wish I never had it done in the first place, this blurry vision has impeded my life.
As you say it may affect the trab but not necessarily. I think it would be a good idea to speak to your consultant about your concerns. Their main aim is to control your glaucoma and help you maintain your vision.
Hi. I am in the same position. Had trab in May and now waiting for cataract. I am told by my Dr that it will clear some blurriness but new prescription lense after the cataract will sort this completely. I’m guess he’s right but not sure tbh…
Hi, I had a Trabeculectomy on my left eye on 5th June. My eye was blurry for a good 2 months. Also had Atropine drops for low pressure which caused blurring too. Luckily my vision is good now. I hope you find yours improves soon. Good luck. Angela
