I had a cataract op after having a Presserflo shunt operation and that went fine.

I am due to have a cataract op in my other eye which has had a trab.

The consultant told me that only she could do it, not a general cataract removal for people who hadn't had a previous operation. She said that it needed to be done in a slightly different way but that it would be fine.

Hi. It is of course not a straight cataract operation as there is your previous trabeculectomy to take into account. It is though of course, possible and may even help with the drainage of fluid inside your eye.

Please be reassured that they will take your past trabeculectomy into consideration and will monitor your eye pressure afterwards. Make sure you ask any questions at your pre assessment appointment to help alleviate your fears.

I had a cataract operation 3 weeks after a trabeculectomy as a result of a sudden onset cataract. The same surgeon carried out the operation and recommended a general anaesthetic as I’d had corrective surgery under local anaesthetic following the initial trabeculectomy. All went well but I didn’t experience the miraculous difference in sight which many people do after cataract surgery. It took quite a while to stabilise and I can’t manage without glasses as many people post cataract can.

I have had cataract surgery after Baerveldt tubes in both eyes. The same surgeon did both and it was fine. In fact he combined the cataract procedure in my right eye with something called canaloplasty and this has reduced the pressure very effectively.

I had a cataract with no shunt. 7 operations later the same year and I lost that eye.

Like other replies said. Make sure the consultant operates on you and that you get some sort of shunt before hand.

Im happy there are more responsible consultants out there.
