Think my eyes are rebelling!

Sunshine88888888 profile image

Had to phone the emergency on call doctor yesterday morning, my eyes were so sore, red and I felt like I had been crying for days, spoke to Doctor and we think the latest eye gel for nights, which wasn’t preservative free has caused a reaction. Currently I’m on Tiopex, Brinzolamide, monoprost, steroid drops, dry eye drops during day and gel at nights. Fortunately just finished the antibiotic drops. So all in all I think my poor eyes just need a rest from constant drops 🤣however I know full well each drop is necessary, well more than necessary! I can see, I can drive, , I can do everything I want providing I remember to take my drops! So I’m so grateful just a little tired, been doing this 21 years, so fingers crossed I can keep going at least another 21 years 🤣🤣🤣

So sorry to hear about your problems with the eye gel. Hopefully you will be prescribed a preservative free gel and your eyes will feel more comfortable soon. x

Thanks Engima 🤞my eyes will settle soon xx

I've never found gel to be good enough for overnight and always prefer a preservative free ointment, something like xailin night. You'll find it'll still be in when you awake and you can blink it out.

Not surprised with the amount of stuff you have to put in , bless .Omega 3 is suppose to help dry eyes , so things like diet oily fish , olive oil, olives etc.... and a high strength omega 3 supplement .

Try a warm compress. My sister has dry eyes and is on drops and an ointment at night, sorry don’t know the names , she also has punctual plugs in her tear ducts.

She was told to try warm compress to help provide relief x

Thank you so much I’ll certainly give it a try xx

Your poor eyes Sunshine they have been so inundated with drops, no wonder they are acting up. I hope you get some preservative free drops that give you some relief. I'm not surprised you're tired, you have had quite a time of it with your eyes recently. Big hugs and positive healing vibes x

Thanks Witchie already after one day without the gel drops my eyes do feel better! It’s so easy to initially think something is going wrong with your eyes when more often than not it can be a reaction to the drops! It’s such a relief to have finished the post operative cataract drops as well! Just have the laser and the biopsy to get through and then 🤞life will be a breeze 🤣hope all is well with you x

That's good to hear and yes great you are finished the post op drops. I know they are necessary but eyes must get to the point when they do think enough. Not long till your next procedures and then yes a nice easy time for you is definitely deserved. All is good here apart from poor Lu has had an upset tummy ,so it's been chicken, rice and doggy probiotic powders for her. She's back to being naughty and cheeky again so I think that's her on the mend. X

She did find a cute working cocker spaniel called Dan that she took a huge fancy to on the beach. He was only interested in rabbits though 😄 x

Hope all gets better very soon for you. I was given Evolve Hypromellose lubricating eye drops for my dry eye from the consultant, which is very good, some days a drop every few days sometimes 2 or 3 drops a day. Just run out yesterday of them, but think you can buy from a chemist so will try later

Thank you, yes I have those during the day and the consultant said I had to put in at least 4 times a day. He then gave me the gel eye drops which I reacted to. I didn’t realise how important it was to put dry eye drops in, wish I had known twenty years ago x

Aw Sunshine, sorry to hear of your problems, fingers x your eyes are starting to ease. I can’t use the gel or ointment overnight, the only thing that I can comfortably use are the eye drops from Boots for irritated and dry eyes, approved by my Consultant. Hope all goes for you. 🤗X

Oh that’s interesting so I’m not alone in having problems with the gel. Two days without them and feel so much better, can actually take off my sunglasses when talking to friends and appear normal 🤣well as normal as I can ever be 🤣

Poor you Sunshine! You have my sympathy! I was allergic to one of my drops and my eyes went really bloodshot (I looked like something out of a horror movie), hot, gritty and very sore. I was concerned that I’d have to just put up with it but soon as I changed to preservative free they recovered. Those preservatives can be quite pesky! I just hope I’m still as upbeat and positive as you are after 21 years glaucoma treatment! 🙂👍🏻
