Dry eyes

Following my trab 4 days ago I find the eye drop medication really drying for my eyes, has anyone had the same reaction and if so is there anything that you found helpful. I have hylo forte moisterising drops but they haven’t made much of a difference and I’m not sure if they are suitable just at the moment. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

When I had my trabs done, I was advised I could use 'Hycosan Extra' preservative free. Worked for me. I still use these if my eyes start to feel a bit dry.

Hi Odta

Sorry to hear about the dry eyes. I also had a problem with it after surgery, probably due to all the drops. It's really uncomfortable isn't it.

Did the hospital give you a contact number just in case ? That's where I try to get help.

Otherwise, try the pharmacist at the place where you get your regular prescription . They might be able to advise you.

I'm using hyromellose drops and the hospital later added carbomer eye gel .

Good luck with it all and I hope your eye feels better soon.

I normally use Hylo Forte but in this situation it’s really not having the desired effect. I’ll take your advice and ring the hospital and hopefully they can suggest an alternative. Thank you

Hi I hope that you managed to get some help on this. I've just noticed that the hydrating eye drops I use nowadays are theoloz duo.

Thank you I’ll have a look at those

Hello Odta, If the Hylo Forte has always worked for you, it could be that you just need to increase the amount of times you use it. If you have already tried this, contact your consultant or GP who may be able to prescribe an alternative drop for you, as some artifical tears can still be written on prescription. Alternativley, have a chat with your pharmacist, who will be able to suggest a different one to try. if you find your eyes are very dry in the morning, a dry eye gel may be an option for you to try to use at night when youre sleeping. Preservative free will be more gentle on the eyes.

Hi Trish

That's really interesting to read that the gel should be used overnight. I've been very confused about when to use theoloz duo drops and when to use carbomer eye gel.

Just simple advice on how to use meds helps patients very much !

Thank you Trish, unfortunately the Dr I saw at the eye clinic yesterday wasn’t too helpful so I’ll have to try my GP

Hi Odta, I had my trab in Jan 2020 and have had dry eye ever since. I use viscotears throughout the day which I find really soothing especially if cooled. At night I use Hycosan night time drops which I find keep my eyes moist all night. Good luck finding something that suits you 👍

Thank you, that’s really helpful, I’ll definitely look into both those drops. I’m seeing my consultant tomorrow so I’ll ask his advice as well.
