Hi there,

I've been using fixapost eye drops for 2 days now and my eyes feel extremely gritty, dry and red. Is this likely to pass once my eyes adjust to the new drops? Ive also noticed the redness is even worse upon waking up in the morning/ after a nap/

Prior to this i had been on tiopex (timolol) for a few years and my eyes felt very comfortable. I didn't expereince any side effects at all.

I really hate walking around with red eyes as it makes me self-conscious. I've been dealing with secondary glaucoma since i was 14 years old. Im now in my mid-20s and i've had a bardvelt shunt in both eyes.

What have your experiences been with fixapost/ latanoprost?

Any advice would be much apprciated.

Thanks

unfortunately, in my experience it doesn’t pass, just gets worse. Preservative free my help but I found any drops with latanoprost had the same effect. There are other options so speak to your consultant.

Agree. Contact your consultant. They may be able to change to another drop to try, or offer preservative free. Lubricating drops might help meanwhile, and if they don’t, trying them may strengthen your case to change drops.

Thank you. Yes fixapost is preservative free and i'm already using the lubricating drops.

I was diagnosed with uveitis/ secondary glacuoma 10 years ago when i was 14 and i've had a bardvelt shunt implant to both eyes. I just think my eyes really struggle to tolerate most drops now. I wish there was another option.

They felt comfortable when i was on Timolol alone but unfortunetly my pressures crept up after losing my mum to cancer hence the addition of latanoprost.

I will contact my consultant next week and hopefully find a better alternative.

Sounds like you’ve been through a lot lately. 😕 So I hope your consultant can offer a solution to your sore eyes.

I went through most of lock down with dreadfully painful red sore eyes, as eye checks were delayed so I couldn’t get help, plus my eye pressures kept fluctuating too, so I have some idea how you feel so you do have my sympathy.

Do you have a good optician? As I had to wait to see the consultant (as in lockdown) I made an appointment to see my optician and she checked my eyes for me and she then wrote to my consultant saying what she’d found, and suggesting she thought it was an allergic reaction to my new drops and not dry eyes, which I think speeded up getting my prescription changed.

Hi sumersea! I take xalatan ( latanoprost) at one eye for two years, I also using cosopt in both eyes for 6 years, the eye in wich I take latanopost from start is mildly red, but nothing seriously for past 6-7 days its been itchy dry, very uncomfortable, like islandhome write, try lubricants, but with drops with wich you have on start bad efects, its hardly to be better. In the end you can contact your doctor and get another combination of drops! I wish you luck with drops!

Hi, I was prescribed Latanoprost when I was first diagnosed and had similar gritty eye issues. The hospital changed my prescription as my pressures were not reducing to a level that they were comfortable with. I have been using Bimatoprost since then and only occasionally have I felt my eyes to be gritty. It might not be appropriate for your condition, but worth asking your Consultant.

Just started on latanoprost and had severe pain in the eye as a consequence so I stopped the drops after two doses! Now - a week on - the eye feels gritty and aches a bit but my immediate reaction to latanoprost was horrible! I am supposed to start a new eyedrop soon but if that causes issues I have no idea what to do.

I had the same problems feeling gritty. So I was prescribed Lumigan before sleep, and Timolol in the mornings. Sometimes only I feel gritty, then I use Systane preservative free, after one hour of the thymolol. It ususally helps.
