Hello,

Back on September 1st my wife had her second 6 monthly check up after stopping medication for aspergillus nodule in left lung as her condition was stable. At the time chest was clear and she was really well. All blood tests show aspergillus count now back down to an acceptable level - another improvement after her last check in April when it was a little higher.

This year she has had hayfever for the first time in years so has taken antihistamines but even so still had breakthrough symptoms. Just thought it could be the freak weather conditions or someone planting different crops nearby - we are in a semi rural area so if the wind comes from a different direction different pollen would find it's way here or if different crops planted this could account for it. Didn't think to mention this at the checkup as it really wasn't that bad.

From the Sunday after our visit to NAC the hayfever was really bad and the Tuesday after she comes down with a bad chest infection - a week later still not that good despite antibiotics and steroids. So bad we have tested twice for Covid as feeling worse than when we had Covid in March/April time but both tests clear.

She used to suffer from hayfever when we lived in the "Thames Dustbowl" and when we lived in a rural area in Cornwall and then again in Pembrokeshire - especially near oil seed rape fields. Don't think she has had a problem for about 10 years with hayfever. She used to frequently get chest infections in the summer which we put down to congestion from the hayfever but not had this for a while. We are wondering if stopping the antifungal medication could have had an effect on this? Any one got any ideas? My wife has another check up in 6 months so will remember to bring this up then. Other than this her respiratory symptoms (she also has asthma and bronchiectasis) are far better than before her treatment for the Aspergillus Nodule and we can't praise NAC enough for their fantastic continuing care.

I presume from what you write that your wife has allergic asthma?

Allergic asthma can be worsened by a type of aspergillosis, and you can react to fungal spores in the air as a consequence - usually at a high in late summer/autumn.

If you ring one of the NAC specialist nurses - you should have received a text giving you the contact details after your appointment?

You will get a lot more discussion from patients at NAC support group at facebook.com/groups/aspergi...
