Flying.....?

Hi just wondering if you can fly when you have aspergillosis ?

It would certainly lift our moods if we could get away. We feel we have lost control of our lives since my husbands illness.

We still await results of lung biopsy and husband saw gp this week who said he shouldn't worry about referral re the polyp they found when doing the bronchoscope .... And the samples from the lung were still growing in a lab. She said no to flying because of oxygen . His breathing is a lot better breathless only when walking up hills but the coughing has increased.

Not been given any anti fungal drug yet is this because they await biopsy results first? We are in a dark tunnel..

We do have patients who fly - some a very long way. At the the National Aspergillosis Centre (nationalaspergillosiscentre... we check and advise on a patient by patient basis. Your GP could contact NAC and enquire as to what those criteria are.

You can also find information on practical issues like insurance & oxygen transport on our patient support website here nacpatients.org.uk/node/85

Hello mariongisela,

What a terrible time you are both having.

I live in Kent and I am being treated by Pembury, Royal Tunbridge Wells Hospital - I was diagnosed with ABPA, Bronhiectasis and a carrier of alpha one antitrypsin last June after a horrific year of chest pains, coughing up blood and an operation on my sinuses for nasal polyp's (chronic rhino sinusitis since my late teens) - ABPA is being treated with predisolone and side effect reducing meds plus what has really helped no end antifungal (itraconazole).

I hope you both see better days very soon - I wish you well and answers very soon!
