That’s good I had a couple of endoscopy’s if it’s that make sure they give you sufficient sedation and my only advice if wear a sanitary towel just in case as it can make you wretch and then you can have an accident. But it’s painless you’ll be fine I’m sure. Good luck and I hope all goes well

Hi, thank you so much!!!Going to get my hubbie to hold my hand-he can mop up any spillages!!!!

On a more serious note, am really scared, although my doc says they can give me loads of sedation, its a different story when yo get there!!!

Wish me luck, much luvxx Thank you

HiI’m sorry that sounds seagull. Will they do a camera investigation? I ask cos FND is not responsible for everything and ruling out a potentially fatal condition is important…

My daughter has spasms in her esophagus which makes her feel she can't breathe. Not sure if it's the fnd or gut problems caused by fnd but she's had some relief from lanzoprazole and a gluten free diet. You sure it was your windpipe?

cocoferraro profile image
cocoferraro in reply toBreeze6

Hello there,so sorry for your dayghter, Not sure where the spasam is, it could be escophagus and I sometimes feel I cant breathe, It have taken lanzoprazole for 6 yrs and does not help, the only thing that touches it is diazepam, which I dont want to take all the time, as addictive, we are trying gluten free at present, can you please explain where the esophagus vs windpipe are? thanks so much, my heart goes out to your daughter and yourself.... luv...xx

There are two tubes at the back of your throat . One is the windpipe going to your lungs. Behind that is the esophagus (gullet) which goes to your stomach so they are in close proximity to each other. That's why acid reflux (which may be causing the spasm) can make you cough, because the vapours from the acid affect the respiratory tract. As your stomach and gullet are muscular the diazepam will be relaxing them thereby easing the spasm. Maybe you could try a low acid diet, some relaxation exercises/cd's and gaviscon advance. You should probably ask the doctor for an endoscopy to check your stomach and gullet are healthy. Hope this is helpful. Wishing you good luck.

Can you get an ENT assessment? Like LouBL0u, tests to rule things out etc.Vocal cord dysfunction a possibility? speechuncensored.com/podcas...

This needs further investigation as there is a lot around that area that could be going on.....I got a seated MRI scan and it showed an issue with the close over from the wind pipe /food pipe....I also have laryngeal spasms and not to scare you but this can be potentially fatal so you need to know is it laryngeal and if it is there are home remedies that can help...for me I have a stomach acid tablet and when a spasm happens it can make the gullet swell up so its an antihistamine and diazapam to stop it from becoming serious.....bottom line is if it is interfering with the breathing you can not just hang it on to FND...please let us know how you get on but do please get checked out

Hi there,Thank you for your email and all the information, I have spoken to my doctor on the phone to day about the spasms, she wants to see me in her office but is also sending me for the camera down the throat, if it were not for you guys I would not have got this far, although I dread the camera and throat thing will have to be brave and hope they find the problem.

I am sorry that your MRI showed awful results but glad that you have found a relief, will let you now what happens,

many thanks and take careand sending love to youX

Hi honestly not read the replies you have had - so forgive any crossover.

It sounds to me with the combination of your headache and windpipe severe pain symptoms you may well have a physical postural issue- Spinal or Occipital joint problem going on?

I get more and more headaches as I get older and I have had whiplash in the past, so put it down to upper spine joint bad posture during tasks.

Do not forget GP's are just that, `General Practitioners' they do not have time or in depth knowledge of everything and I know someone who went to their GP with severe neck pain, was told to take painkillers and go away, 3 days later they collapsed on the floor at home and on arriving by Ambulance at the hospital was diagnosed with 2 discs prolapsed in their neck!

So get yourself checked out by an Orthopaedic Spinal Consultant asap if you can, if nothing else you can rule that out as a possible cause?

Look for the calm in the Storm!

Hi there, thank you for your reply,

its funny you should say that as about 6 years ago they found out through other tests that I had slight curviture of the spine, and my neck is always clicking, but with no pain,

I have spoken to my GP by phone today and she wants to examine me and then send me to have a camera down my throat, do you think this will show up anything? I am glad that the GP has set the ball rolling and will mention my spine issues when I go for the test and to my GP, will let you know what happens.

thank you so much, your information was very valuable,

I feel so stressed out lately but I dont know why and I think its making the spasms worse,

Take care, thank youxxx

Hi, brilliant that you have got your GP to start the ball rolling on further investigations, nothing can worse than what you are suffering at the moment:

1) The throat camera may show something if obvious narrowing of the throat is the cause?

2) If the incorrect joint positioning over the years has damaged the muscles/tendons, wear and tear imbalances etc you may find an MRI more helpful . Although this will only view the neck in a set, static position again - so needs to be studied by a highly qualified Consultant not a GP.

It might be useful to note when you have the most pain, what angle your neck/back is or what tasks you were doing when it is at the worst pain and for how long that pain lasts. Like you have already identified that standing up causes spinal joint pressure giving you headaches.

Then have that detail ready for when you see a Spinal Consultant, because they will actually skilfully examine/assess you in different postures and know what the true alignment of bones/tendons/muscles should be for `normal' and feel any possible restrictions affecting your particular regular movement/mobility.

Note: Remember on the whole sharp pain means nerve irritation or compression and dull pain usually means muscular or postural inflammation/irritation - obviously you can have both at once but the brain will respond to the more severe LOUDEST signalling pain first!

Painkillers are great for non-specific muscular/tendon irritation pain, but often have no effect on nerve pain (I have found ice packs useful for numbing the area sometimes with nerve pain). Nerve block injections are popular, though generally only last about 3 months on average, with mixed outcomes because they depend on if the posture issues have been resolved during the `pain free' physio exercises period.

Good luck and try not to stress, divert that mental energy into being proactive for lifestyle pain free solutions.

Look for the calm in the Storm!
