Hi, This might have been covered in another post but im on Tramadol for the pain im in and it doesnt seem to be shifting it. I feel the gp doesnt really know what fnd is and just keeps increasing the mgs a day. What pain meds do you take and are they working for you. Thanks

Pain Meds
Hi. I don't take any pain meds - I manage my pain with distraction. I had a bad experience with opioids after hip surgery so avoid using them now. My brother also has FND and was put on tramadol, but it made him too dopey to function, so he stopped. It's really a personal choice - you have to figure out what works for you.
I stopped taking the pain meds my GP perscribed as they did nothing and I had some wierd symptoms while on them (lip numbness on waking and loads of fuzzy head, and I felt like I was sleep walking).
I descided that my body was dealing with enough already and if the meds were not helping the pain there was no point. When I finally got referred to the neurolgist he was not surprised that the meds did not work for me and asked me if I had found anything else helps. After talking to him I realised that the only time my pain disappears completely is when I am emersed in something I love.
So now my 'medication' is painting for at least an hour every day. I have also found swimming really helps with my joint pains and spasms. More than anything I have found that finding a ballance between being gentle with myself and not overdoing it and staying active and engaged in things that bring me joy is helping more than the pain meds did.
My GP is lovely and really wants to help, the last time she tried to put me on different meds I really felt that she was just trying to find something within her remit to help me. She admitted to me that she knows about FND but not enough and she was really greatful for the links I gave her to useful information.
Good luck finding your way through this. As everyone says FND is different for everyone and the most important thing is to find what feels right for you.
I occasionally take pain meds but when I do I find a neuropathic pain med works. I find this works better than Tramadol. Might be worth looking into this with your GP if you need something. Increasing the dose of Tramadol won’t help if it’s neuropathic pain.
Hi, I have heard that tramadol is a bad med, but i dont really know, I am on estalopram 15gm amd Pregabalin, which is cos i has a seizure 5 years ago, i have been on these meds ever since then but I feel much better with them, although I still get all the symptoms, eg, tightening band around head, balance issues, getting lost, memory issues etc etc. brain fog is a big issue. but I do feel that I am on the right meds and what happens from now on is either good or bad considering my luck. I have a very good gp who moniters me, I have had rehabilitation and can go back at any time, plus I have a hubby who has had open heart surgery but trys his best to look after me. I wish I could be brillient and take nomeds at all but I cant , take care allxx
