Husband went for 8th BCG treatment but they didn't like color of urine , thinking he has UTI, so was postponed until a week on antibotics. He was bummed but hoping next attempt will be fine...
Update: Husband went for 8th BCG... - Fight Bladder Cancer
Update
Didn't they test it? I have had this treatment and my urine was tested every time I attended. Anyway, I hope your husband is ok and responds well to the treatment - it worked for me!
Yes they do test every time before BCG treatment, husband just thought pain was from previous treatment , he tolerated first six BCG treatments , but last two , hasn't bounced back as well. Nurse said they would do culture which takes several days for results, but put him on antibiotics until tests come back and will try again next week...Good to hear treatments worked for you!
The urine tests are always done before treatments. UTIs are not uncommon. They treatments have to be halted because if UTIs are not treated it can develope into bacterium sepsis. Sepsis can be fatal. The tests are done to avoid complications.
Not everyone can tolerate the treatments for 10 or 12 treatments straight. Some people become extremely sore in the bladder (inflammation) and the treatments are then spaced out.
It is suggested to stay away from acidic foods and drinks as they irritate the bladder. Coffee is a big offenders. Change of diet to lean more towards alkaline foods and drinks.
Oh that's important to know (we didn't) They did tell my husband they might reduce the bcg dosage strength next week...I know he drinks 3-4 cups of coffee a day which isn't great but considering he gave up cokes, I try not to fuss too much about his coffee. .His appetite isn't good and he has lost about eight pounds which he didn't need to do but hoping that will level off...Thanks for info!
I believe that its not the color of the urine but there is a test they do to see if there is any infection indicating a UTI.
