Hi Paul, had my bladder removed four years ago, I have a stoma and a pouch. I have had no problems.

Had the op at Guys hospital, all carried out by robot, recovery time was cut down to 6 days.

Take heart, my life has only changed slightly but I still lead a normal life.

Good luck when the time comes.

Hi I'm Rayw, I was diagnosed today with bladder cancer. I was afraid until I read your post. It gave me a lot of relieve, because I have to have the same surgery. Bladder removal and the pouch. How has the hole in your body affected you?

Has anyone discussed the option of a neo bladder with you?

It is a new bladder made from part of the lower intestine,i had one made and it does have it drawbacks but im thinking it will end up better than being on a bag for the rest of my life.

hi did not know that and have you had one made was this instead of a stoma or did you have stoma then bladder made

The neo bladder is an alternative to a stoma ,i could be wrong but i think that once you have a stoma it becomes difficult to change to a neo bladder ,but the neo bladder can be changed to a stoma if it proves unsuitable. I think it would be due to the length they have to cut the ureter and other tubes.

I opted for the neo bladder right from the start,it wasnt offered as an option but my wife read about it online and suggested it to the doctors.
