Weird tingling (not just peripheral neuropathy)

Happy New Year to fellow warriors - I hope for your continued good health as we engage in common cause against our common foe.

I start the New Year with an odd query: I'm now on Day 21 of a Cabazitaxel/Carboplatin combination chemo. I was due to have infusion #2 today, but because of a bad reaction, we've decided to pause treatment (see another post of mine re that decision.....)

From Day One, I had a loss of taste and numbness in my lips. But over the past couple of days I've had odd little tingling sensations pretty much everywhere: back, neck, hands, feet, thighs.

Has anyone experienced this before, and was it as a result of the Cab, the Carbo, or both? (I've read about more general numbness with platinum-based chemos and some of the SEs are irreversible, so I'm reluctant to press ahead with more treatment!

Happy new year and good health to you, mate. I was given cisplatin 10 years ago (5 sessions, not PCa related). Did not know about how to mitigate SEs. I have peripheral neuropathy equally in both feet to this day; luckily does not affect balance. Taste was affected but eventually righted itself.

Are you using cold socks and mitts? Fasting day before and after sessions is also recommended.

Does it feel like you're being stung by1000's of little bee's? But each sting is more of a nuance than painful. I've had this before and it usually passes in 5 minutes but occurs frequently. After a couple of months it stopped altogether.

Definitely suggest the use of cryo, ie, ice on extremities, along with eating ice chips while receiving the chemo. Didn't do it my first infusion, had the metal taste in mouth and all that. Was going to do the cold cap for the head but didn't work out for the 1st infusion and hair fell out right ways so skipped that.

But the ice chips prevented the metal taste from there on out, I did have foot and finger tip neuropathy, the fingers have since gotten better, but it's still there, and feet as well, but worse than fingers. I feel, but have no proof, that the ice on hands and feet helped mitigate anything worse in regard to neuropathy. Chemo Jan-May 2021.

Good Luck

That's really helpful. The reality was that the 'tingling' had nothing to do with the chemo - it was severe magnesium and potassium deficiency! But I'm about to start a fresh round of Cabazitaxel (no Carboplatin this time) and will take your good advice
