Hi Karen, here's my summary: am going to docs tomorrow to hopefully come off mirtazipine for same reasons as you. I have been on Amytriptiline before and definitely makes you sleep and gain weight but is a great painkiller. I am on gabapentin, no bad side effects but they might have been getting over shadowed by mirtazipine. x

Hi Karen,I've been taking Amitriptyline for about 20 years and never had any problems with it. I take 75mg each night and sleep like a baby. When it was first prescribed I was signed off sick for 2 weeks and not allowed to drive, this gave my body time to get used to it and within that time I was back to normal again. They say it isn't addictive but I think it probably is ! Each person reacts to amitriptyline differently so just be aware of what the side effects are and hopefully you'll settle down with it :)

There isn't much research to support the use of Amitriptyline for Fibro long-term or at doses higher than 50mg, though it is a recommended med to try for Fibro.

fibroaction.org/Articles/Hi...

Starting at 50mg and working up to 150mg sounds more like a typical dose for depression, not when using the med for Fibro.

If the side effects are flooring you, go back to the doctor and let them know. It's common with Fibro to have to start on low doses of meds and work them up if needed.

Thanks for your replies, I am feeling pretty low and having put a stone in weight on just makes me feel worse. X

Hiya, why did your doctor take you off Duloxetine? I take 60mg og Duloxetine in the morning and 10mg of Amitriptyline, at night, the pain clinic put me on this, and I find that this combination works just fine for me.Hope you start to feel better soon. x

I take duloxeteine and have prescriptiin for amatrip for jumpy leg. Makes me very groggy next day so GP suggested taking it earlier, but felt like zombie, so dont take it very often.

Hiya I started out on Amitriptyine went up to 100mgs but hated the way it made me feel. Really detached from life and my loved ones. So come off them after a year, then tried Duloxatine really hated them I had sickness and felt so strange so stopped after 6 months. I've now been on Tramadol for just over a year, at first I felt abit sick but soon passed. I'm also on Naproxen for my osteo arthritis . Happy days, it may take a while to find out what works for you as we all react differently to drugs. Good luck. Xx
