Hi all, could someone point me to where i can find out about pacing please? Thanxxx
Hi,
my Pain management team suggested that when I do tasks, I stop before the pain starts to increase then rest for a time. Also to vary tasks, do the important stuff first. I use a timer which I set for 15 minutes which helps keep me on track. That said, I still need to pace better as I will keep going at things for too long a time .

Hi pacing is different for everyone .knowing your body and what you can do without straining yourself so much you feel awful the next day . here is one of the many articles about fibro and pacing ... I personally find this one nice and easy to understand ....

Hope that helps you a little

Hello, just looked at the link you sent, exactly what i was looking for, thank you muchly!xxxx
Knowing your body
Short activity periods
Scheduled rest
Routines
Prioritizing
Switching tasks
All these will help you pace
thank you all for your replies, i`ll have a go. xxx
Hi I don't know where you live ,but my rheumy sent me to a pain management course which incorporated pacing I found it very useful though a lot is common sense I think learning not to beat yourself up ,about not achieving everything you want to do is the hardest obstacle to overcome. Maybe ask your doctor if they can recommend you for the programme .By the way I live in Scotland but know this is available nationally. Take care and have a good weekend
I have to pace otherwise I'd never get anything done!!! I'm getting so bad, painwise, that I'm even considering getting someone who 'does' for me!! I would like my windows cleaned inside, my skirting boards cleaned, my window frames cleaned....all those jobs that I just cannot do myself anymore. I'm not looking forward to it one bit, I've been fiercely independent all my life but I think the time has come. XXXXX
I found this site --- paintoolkit.org --- was good -- there is a booklet you can print off. I have now learnt to "listen" to my body and have learnt to pace myself so I am able to work part time and do regular gentle exercise (walking, yoga, swimming). The hardest part was learning to say "No" when my family expected too much of me. Good luck xx
I've had a read of the paintoolkit site, it's really quite good! I try and do all the things recommended but I'm rather isolated and don't have friends to include in my life. I have 2 really good friends but 1 works and the other is looking after her terminally ill husband. So I really feel I'm on my own! XX
