Yep a simple supplement would be fine. Foods aren't all that rich in vitamin d and our bodies really do rely on the sun...hence why deficiency in this country is becoming more prevelant! X

This is so true....it's cos we have crap summers, and the incidence of rickets is increasing too!!!

Please speak to your GP before taking any supplements, some are not as harmless as they appear and can cause quite severe side effects. Best to be on the safe side, also to check they are ok to take in conjunction with our current meds. :)

thank you for that i am on a lot of meds - morphine, gabapentin, tramadol, citalapram amytriptolele and paracetamole so will check with hum

in reply tobbstport

That's the best thing to do, especially as there are so many meds being taken. :) xxx

Egg yolks and breakfast cereals have a little too if that helps...you can also buy yogurts with added vit d now too...

thank you will try that as i like yogurt i have an egg on a sunday but dont know if that will count

it's really hard to overdose on vit d, so i'd recommend speaking to your gp about getting a supplement anyway, as low levels can affect every organ. there are over 3000 vit d receptors in the body, and vit d defiency has a proven link to things like ms, fibro, diabetes, various cancers and many other illnesses. you're less likely to contract these diseases if you're vit d deficient, and if you do get them, you're more likely to survive them if you have a higher vit d level. in fact, it's been proven in long term (30 yr+ studies) that you're less likely to die for any reason, from any cause at all, if you have higher vit d levels.

so es, if you're low, i'd ask for supplements regardless. or buy them yourself, they're available in low doses from boots and other chemists.

thank you very much for that advice

in reply tobbstport

you're welcome, although, on re-reading, it should say "more likely to contract these diseases if you're vit d deficient", not "less likely".

I swear, i re-read it about 5 times before posting, i guess that's fibro for you!

on-line, there are some great ideas, healthaliciousness.com/arti...,

Liver is one that I have, if you cook it in strips, slowly in a casserole it is delicious, with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, maybe bacon if you like it and some stock. Remember cook it slowly, a slow cooker is great for this. None of this fried or grilled stuff,... that resembles rubber soles, yuck........

Alternately have a lovely holiday in the Canary Islands this time of year is wonderful, just joking. It would be nice don't you think.

Vit D defficiency is common in fibro sufferers.. My doc perscribes me a one a day chewable tutti frutti tablet called Adcal, its just like eating a sweet. :)

bbstport in reply toSparkyMark

did you have to ask him to prescribe it ?

I asked him to add the test to the list of bloods I was getting done. When it showed up that I was deficient, he was happy to add it to the list of meds.
