When I could drink (my meds don't allow me too now )

.... One small glass of wine would have me leg less... We used to laugh about it.... Now my fibro has got worse I have been tried on loads of opiates ans morphine and I can't handle it leaves me feeling drunk for hours ... I had blood tests and a liver biopsy and it turns out my liver metabolises alcohol and opiates so slowly there is no way I can take them.... Just when I though my fibro was bad enough I can't even drink to forget about it

Sounds like you have my problem .... Unless you can tolerate opiates

Might be worth mentioning to your gp

I find that milk thistle caps are great. x

I don't know about getting drunk too quickly as in the past year if i drink alcohol especially Cider, i start to get a painfully heavy sensation in head then neck and it flows all the way down to my feet and it hurts like absolute hell and it lasts about half an hour and will continue till i finish so i generally don't drink. Before this strange side effect i would find that if i drank too much my hangover would last for upto a week. I love cider especially fruit cider but hey ho just eat more cakes instead hehe xxx

I gave up all alcohol several years ago. I admit that I used to drink too much, but gradually I found that even one glass of wine would make me feel unwell. The hangovers were unbearable, they could last for 48hrs, even if I'd only had one or two drinks. The decision to stop made sense, I would never start again, although it does mean that I can't deaden the pain!

An unexpected positive happened as well - I found that my depression became much easier to cope with & sometimes dissapears totally.Stopping totally works for me X

I am the same as verygrumpy with wine but never been told about the liver bit.

I was given quinine during a stay in hospital and was so off the wall I was banned from ever taking it again. everyone told me I was hilarious!

hi apart from the occasional glass of month like once a month i cannot go near it.the smell everything...the wine just helps me sleep.x

It's always advisable to bear in mind what medication/s you are taking. Obviously if you are dosed up to the eyeballs with strong pain reliefs, antidepressants and meds for other conditions, it isn't advisable to drink alcohol at all.

If you are taking minimum pain relief then you would be able to have a couple of drinks now and again with minimal side effects. It really is down to common sense really.

I am on minimal meds now after being on dozens for years so I allow myself two glasses of white wine now and then, certainly not regularly and it doesn't affect me at all. :)

Hi.

Meds say none at all but sometimes after a really long week of work and everything else , I find a glass or two wine really lovely. Anymore than that and I would have to be scraped off the floor and shovelled into bed. :)

I don't drink because of my meds and haven't for years as I was always the designated driver

:( but I have tried a glass of wine now and then, I don't get drunk I just SWEAT, not a glamorous look, hair soaking wet, shiny red face lol .....so i avoid it. Like Sandra99b quinnine also affects me, I can get hangover symptoms from drinking too much tonic water ...... no hope for me then lol.

I don't tolerate meds or alcohol. Even one drink will leave me feeling awful, my head and neck end up feeling almost as bad as when I had glandular fever, as a result I've been teetotal for years. I also had the problem that one drink would be more than enough but if I ever have the energy to have an evening out with my friends, I make the perfect designated driver... as long as they don't mind not having too late a night out!

I don't know if my liver function has been properly tested but some years ago I had a health scare that turned out to be cysts in my liver. I have to have annual scans to keep an eye on the situation - another good reason for not drinking.

i approached my doc about alcohol and she told me, because of my meds, each drink i have is actually doubled,i joked at first said it will be a cheap night, but god it hurts for a few days after xxx

I can't drink wine any more, even one small glass leaves me really drunk and with a headache/hangover from hell - even before I finish the glass, but I can drink a lager and a couple of bourbons with no problems.

I do this maybe once a month or so if I'm lucky. I keep intending to drink in an evening, and end up forgetting to! It's become a bit of joke with my husband and I, we used to be big drinkers, now we barely touch alcohol.

I have become intolerant to alcohol about 3 years ago along with cigarettes after smoking for 26 years!!! I can even smell smoke if someone in the next car to me is smoking, it makes me feel so sick, now I need to beat the bulge, but sometimes when i am sat here hardly able to move I crave chocolate and quick fix foods, and feel like I may as well chop my head off as dont drink, dont smoke, just pop pills and love rubbish food heheheh xxx
