Quite honestly bad pain is not a feature of CFS, it is more about the unrelenting extreme fatigue that doesn't improve with sleep. CFS pain tends to be a pain that occurs in old injuries that should have long since healed and normally paracetamol, cocodomol or ibuprofen should do the trick.
I would say that if you have CFS and a lot of pain then you probably have a second medical condition.
I started off with CFS, I had pain in my hip where I had torn ligaments several years before. Then at the start of this year started getting more widespread and intense pain which was diagnosed as Fibromyalgia in July.

What Julie says is correct, CFS (I have CFS/ME as well as Fibromyalgia) is mainly fatigue/exhaustion based whereas with Fibro the pain can be the most severe symptom.
The main treatment for CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) are antidepressants to help you relax, to help you sleep too. . Amitriptyline is a low-dose tricyclic antidepressant that may be prescribed. Amitriptyline is not suitable for everyone – for example, it may not be suitable if you have a history of heart problems.
It would be advisable to see your GP to discuss this and hopefully you would be prescribed something to help your CFS symptoms taking into account other conditions you may or may not have.
I hope you feel some relief soon, take care and please let us know how you get on. Take care.
i have c.f.s and i get alot of pain along with the fybro but i have arthritis in my spine too and other probs..
my partner also get some degree of pain .there isnt a right pain relief t.b.h i use my hot water bottle everywhere i go.
and paracetamol to the max each day...heat is a great help though.its the severe fatigue that i struggle with on that one x
Maybe you have M.E and not CFS as M.E can cause pain. I know doctors know very little about the big difference between the two conditions so you may have been misdiagnosed. There are pain medications you can try but, with M.E, it is best to start with a low dose as we are often more sensitive to medication. If you haven't tried over the counter meds that's the place to start. If you have, then get something on prescription. Amitriptyline can be useful but, again, start at a low dose as it can make you groggy.
Good luck.

That's interesting Karen, I understood that ME and CFS are just different names for the same condition, hence the common usage of CFS/ME.
