I'am not a expert in the benefit system but will try and answer the understanding that I have..
There is two types of esa, one is contribution based and one is income related. The contribution based esa is payable from your own national insurance payments if you were working or have enough NI contributions through other benefits ie JSA, carer allowance, income support etc.
The other one is income related esa, Your partners pension is then taking into it, and any savings over I think its £12,000. or £16000? This is joint savings or in the pension side its the total household income......
Contribution esa is only payed for 365 days then stopped and then you will be asked if you want to apply for income related esa, again this is only payed depending on your household income.
So really the contribution esa is what you have payed in your working and will not have anything or effect your partners pension, and income esa is the total household income..
This is my understanding of how esa works..........Best wishes..
over 60 years old can not get income based ESA claim pension credit you have had a right to claim that when you were 60 years old look at my comment on getting ESA and occupational pension. for the details
