Bad Taste
Hello Eule, thanks for your question! There are many reasons why people experience a bad taste in their mouths. It could be their medication, some tablets make your mouth taste awful and feel dry too. Also it can be a sign that there is an underlying condition, so it's always best to have a word with your Doctor about it and also have regular dental checks to make sure everything's ok with your mouth and teeth etc. I've heard many people say that they have a metallic taste in their mouths since they were diagnosed with Fibromyalgia so it isn't at all uncommon. Best to get it checked out though to make sure.
My Severe FM causes me to have 'sicca syndrome' which basically means 'dry'. My eyes, nostrils, mouth, throat and 'other important little places' are constantly moistureless unless I use three types of eye drops- Viscotears single dose, an antihistmine eye drop solutions and nightly Lacrilube. For the other problems I use Salivix saliva stimulating pastilles which my dentist suggested my GP prescribe and Ovestin cream (for the other end :-)) A dry mouth can cause bacteria and gum disease so it is important to keep a good saliva supply. Similarly dry gritty eyes can damage to the corneas but it is important to predominantly use a bacteria free single use eye drop formula. I went through a worrying time where blood would spurt from my mouth into the sink upon cleaning my teeth. At first I thought I had nosebleeds but when it happened during my regular dental checkups the dentist was so alarmed he thought it was a sign of Leukemia or that I was taking Warfarin as I had NO signs of any gum disease. All my blood tests came back OK except for slightly enlarged red blood cells so it remains a mystery. Fortunately it has not happened for about 6 months now but it was one of the early peculiar symptoms of my FM before my firm diagnosis by my Rheumatolgist.
Thanks LibbyDe, I don't think it's the meds as this is completely new. Was at the dentist last month and every thing is fine on that front but you're right the dry mouth thing and metallic taste is a regular for me. But you're right if it keeps up I shall ask my Doc XXX
the only time ive ever had this is when i was pregnant! Do you have something to share with us!!!! hugs xx
