Have you ever been referred about this? It is possible to damage the tailbone and some people have ongoing pain because of an injury that wasn't diagnosed and so didn't resolve properly. Injuries like this can be from simple trauma (falling on your butt), major trauma (car crash),pregnancy/childbirth, etc.

It is also possible that this is an issue with the muscles and ligaments, in which case physio should be able to help.

What does your GP say about it?

I get a lot of problem with this. Pain in the lower back/tailbone, radiating out to my hips. Sometimes, nothing helps. I've tried the usual Tamadol/Gabapentin along with Naproxen, but no, it's always there when it flares up. I had this since 1999 and have been for numerous x-rays. I did mention to the GP that perhaps a CAT/CT scan might show up something. It was met with more medical, meaningless bull5&i$.

Yup, seems to be more and more of this with Doctors. They've recently nearly killed my siister, but that's another story.

It's very frustrating though. I am still working full-time and it's not as if I want to be retired through ill health.

Hi Lally,I had this for years after missing the sofa and going down hard on the arm of it.I used to sayIt was like coming up off a rusty nail when I stood up.you really should see if you can have investigation into this as turned out I had broken mine. But I do have chronic back issues. Its not so bad now but it did take years to settle down.wish you well hun and gentle hugs xxxxxxx

I have coxccydinia as I fell down stairs and broke it when I was 19 broke again when gave birth. You can have it manipulated and injected with steroid in hospital. This worked 1st time for me for 6 months had it done twice since and failed can only be done 3 times. Next step would be to have it removed but can lead to double incontinence so no way! I bought a chair called The Perfect chair which is a zero gravity recliner wonderful very expensive but got mine on EBay they come up from time to time. Hope this helps.

this is the first time i've heard of anyone else with this. My back isn't one of the places i generally have pain - but it is always when i get up from sitting not while i'm sitting. I have asked my GP about this and was met with a shrug of the shoulders. I am 99% sure that i have never damaged the coccyx

I suffer with this too....bloody god awful thing! you sit for too long and have to stand up thats when it really gives you a jolt! and you can't walk properly.... the pain radiates out to the hips which in turn, feel stiff. Bending over for a few minutes is bad too....feels as though everything is locking up in that region. xx
