I have spinal spondylitis which I believe is arthritis. My son has ankolysing spondylitis which is a bone fusion condition of, I believe the neck / spine. Not sure of the spellings on these. Both are painful. My son is on Naproxen at the moment. He is being referred for biologics. Not sure if this info is of any use.

Hi, I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and arthritis in my spine I have had a spinal fusion and just about to have another. I am on biologic injections, if I didn’t have these I would not be able to walk. I would recommend speaking to your specialist. It takes a while to get on them because they are so expensive. Lots of repeated tests to ensure they are going to be right for you. But all meds work different on each patient.

I am also on tramadol zapain naproxen and methotrexate, but I know if I stop the injections which I have due to infections etc I am unable to function.

Good luck, hope you find something that helps.

I have spondylolisthesis - acquired following the fracture of facet joints in my lower spine back in 1992 when I was in my late 30s - I was offered a spinal fusion but chose not to, after much research and talking through - the success rate for my issue was low and I was concerned with other side affects - I’m now nearly 70 - I’ve learnt to live with it - as I’ve aged and my spine has degenerated the spondylolisthesis has naturally fused - my issues now are standing for longer than five minutes and walking especially if hilly or carrying a bag - I took Naproxen but that caused a bleed on my stomach and has left me with colitis - I’ve tried morphine etc over the years but the best thing I’ve found is swimming which strengthens the core muscles and those around the spine - I still take co-codemol (30/500) and do have days when my back spasms but I manage it - make sure before you submit to the fusion that you are fully informed of the pros/cons and also ask how unstable the spine is - wishing you all the best

I have lumbar spondylitis, I'm not sure if it's the same or not, the spondylitis I mean? But I get horrendous pain in my lower back either when standing for too long, walking for not that long now, I am no good distances but I got awarded enhanced mobility for scoring 12 points on moving around even though I said I could walk a higher distance they assessed me as a lower distance going off what I said in my assessment about moving around and from my medical history. Also the pain is aggravated by lying on my back and sitting in 1 position for too long, especially more so on harder chairs and sitting up straight. What eases my pain if I'm out walking is bending forward slightly to take the pressure off my back which I believe is taking the bones apart from rubbing and grinding together.

Heat also works for relief of the pain and I use a heated back support and I use that in the car as it plugs into the battery x

I have a few different conditions but the medications I take can be used for other pain conditions and can crossover as my fibromyalgia can exasperate my back pain too, so I will tell you all of the pain meds that I'm taking.

So, for my lumbar spondylitis, I was put on dihydrocodiene in 2021 (after trying anti-inflammatory meds first, Etadolac and Naproxen but I couldn't tolerate them due to my asthma and I also had a lot of stomach issues with them all).

For my fibromyalgia, I was on Duloxetine for a while but I couldn't tolerate that in the end. I am now taking Gabapentin but only recently been put on that and that was prescribed for my fibromyalgia, however, I am finding it does also help with with my back. I'm titrating that at the moment and I'm only taking 2x doses of 300mg each and will be introducing the 3rd dose in approx. 3 days time so I will be on 900mg a day which is the lowest dose.

I also take Amitriptyline at a low dose for neuropathy pain.

What ever your condition gentle helps. Plenty of exercises free on You Tube etc. I have some serious back issues but have kept the meds low dosage as much as possible while doing streches and weekly Pilates
