I’ll health retirement

Hi

All I posted on here a couple of months back about I’ll health retirement with the NHS pension

I got a letter back today saying I don’t qualify for tier one or two reason being there is still ongoing issues not resolved

I was diagnosed with Fibro in 2022 and mainly bedbound most days

I was referred to the pain management clinic twice I have been assessed for this and they have put it on hold

Due to the pain I have in my left arm and shoulder I literally cannot move or raise it

I’ve had an MRI scan waiting results

Tbh I am absolutely blazing I was going over my letters from different consultants and one was from my rheumatologist last year stating I have a positive Ana blood but I know this can be common in people and also a positive Anti mi 2 b positive and her words indicates dermatomyositis but I don’t show any signs of this disease

I know it’s my own fault for not reading this letter properly ( just also been diagnosed with ADHD so I tend to scan letters)

I utterly bewildered that they think I show no signs I have the reynards muscle weakness struggle to breath skin rashes

Spasms in my throat the list goes on

I hit all the symptoms

I sent medical evidence to the rheumatologist over my skin rashes the spasms I get ect and now have another appointment in August

I was discharged from my nhs job that I lived and done for 20 years back in March

2 weeks ago got diagnosed with ADHD

My Ocky Health report to the pension agency stated my mental health might inmprove but they didn’t think my chronic pain would and they didn’t think I was capable of work in the future

my pip award stated possible mental health will improve chronic pain no

This was before I was diagnosed with ADHD

The reason they didn’t uphold the claim is because my pain might get better and mental health once I’ve been on the pain management corse

And yet pain management they won’t except me till my left arm issue is sorted could be a frozen shoulder or something different

The pension people have gone on frozen shoulder and stated it gets better within 12-18 months

I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense I’m just all over the place at the moment

What I’d give to carry on working and yet I physically and mentally cannot

any advice would be greatly appreciated if anyone’s been through this

I’m just at my wits end trying to make ends meet x

I’m so sorry reading what has happened to you. It was the same for me. I was told that I could improve before my retirement age because I hadn’t explored all avenues. It’s an absolute disgrace. I think the people who make the decisions have no idea how much we go through. I hope there is someone on here who can help you. Take care

Not sure if this will help but could you get in touch with the pension department and ask about a deferred pension, if they do it? Only I have a deferred pension and it basically means that they pay you from when you stop work right until you die, it’s less than you would have normally got paid in your pension (I think they work out what your pension would have paid and then divide it from when you stopped working to when they think you might die. I think anyway).

Maybe you might be better getting some advice from CAB or a solicitor (if you have house insurance if may include legal advice).

Hope this helps! 😊

I have ME/CFS and other health conditions and got my NHS pension knocked back the first time but won it on my first appeal attempt. I was aware that most first attempts at getting pension are kicked back (unless diagnosed with terminal illness).

Before I sent in my appeal I messaged NHS pensions and clarified if there was a time limit for sending in information etc and this was their response

There is no time for your first appeal, please see the following link: ow.ly/yhfz30o5iWe

I sent in loads of information and reports etc My GP and consultant were very helpful and gave me a supportive letter. My husband also wrote a letter which detailed how his life had been impacted (as well as mine) - the information he gave included how he has to help me with showering etc.

Don’t lose hope - I believe it’s the nhs norm

Hi, I'm going through the exact same scenario, I'm in the middle of an appeal, this has been going on since last October, they said exactly the same to me, I worked for 38 years, I contacted pension wise they did give good advice, I suggest contacting them it's a free service. I'm going to fight this paid in my whole life, don't give up, you receive a better deal if your pension is through ill health.

Take care x

Hi 10 x 10

I have a bad shoulder and neck, due to a car accident and now cervical spondylosis, yet I am seeing people from MCHAT for the Fibromyalgia .and I am under the pain management team for my neck. I accessed the pain management team through seeing a physio for my neck and shoulder. He has been brilliant, my shoulder issues have now been diagnosed, I have been completing lots of exercises and the reduction in pain and movement have greatly improved.

Nearly 12 months ago I asked for a referral to Spinal neurosurgeons. I saw them today and my neck and shoulder had improved so much there was nothing he could offer to improve matters. I was more than happy for him to discharge me.

I hope your able to sort out your pension, good luck.
