Moving from ESA to Universal Credit

Hi

I am being made to move from ESA to Universal Credit and getting really worked up about filling all the online forms out. I have heard some horror stories where people got much less money, sometimes had payments stopped.

Has anyone been through this process? Is there any advice you could help me with?

Thank you

Ilona

JHi , i used to work on admin to pass onto advisers and see paper work

Id really if possible try see if any adviser's in area

Cab or welfare rights to help on this one

Not 100 % but sure its transition with switch over and you dont lose out

But do have to be carefull

Do try get an adviser to help if possible

Also id check to see if they gave you a date like 3 months you have to do it by then

If no date and to move over on letter and just asking you

you dont have to move over

This is where a profession adviser is helpfull

Maybe someone may come along

Hi

Thank you for all of your advice. It’s really helpful.

Do you know where I can find an advisor? It doesn’t mention advisors in the letter.

Also, in the letter it states that I have to move over. No option to remain.

Thank you so much

Hi you have to do it yourself to go try get advice check council for welfare rights

Or check to see if any

Citizens advice in your area if so tell them its urgent

They have contract to help with universal credit as well

The letters dont tell you any option to remain

Only if you have to usually 3 months you get if not its not compulsory

Deffenetly check that out if you get a welfare rights or

Citizens advice

Google your area for

Cab

And try check if any

Welfare rights

If you cant find any

Hope it goes ok for you

My Hubby was on ESA we had help for Housing benefit and poll tax,

Then he approached retirement, It wasn't clear what to do, I read it so many times and came back with the same outcome, If he'd wait for awhile we could save up, so to speak and get back pay, NO

They were quite rude and said we both had to go on Universal credit, We were happy when the amount came through, Short lived joy because then decided they paid too much and took it all back,We got minimal payments now that don't even cover the rent, If we were not on PIP we would be in so much cak, The forms we worked on an hour 1 time, Managed to get it done when we got help from carers centre,

I'm afraid they got us all by the short and curlies, Do your best, You can only do xx

Stay calm and don't let the beggars get to you,

Good luck and Take care

I was on universal credit when I was awarded esa and mine was just added on but you do have to contact each one of them. I got told off from them for not informing them because I just assumed that as both added on my account they would know but they don’t. I would book an appointment with CAB they do this stuff daily. I got mine in 17 and I also was expecting a back date payment and they said stopped all of them. I’ve just moved house and I had to ring them all was on wait with pip for over two hours and she knew I’d moved but they still like us to confirm it

I’m in process of changing from tax credits to universal credit, I got a migration notice to do it by 31st jan. I’m self employed and that’s how I can still work. So far done online form, not too bad but I’ve now to prove self employed, talking a large shopping bag of paper ( have been for 23 years! ) and to go to job centre! ( I have asked for disabled parking as I’m on full pip) also online asked what job I’m looking for !!! I said iam not looking as self employed! i couldn’t have a normal job anyway ?

Please do not worry as good friend had to do the same and was better off. They received more plus explained one phone they needed a lot of support with forms as got overwhelmed especially how their ullnedd affected them and were given a nominated person. This man allowed me to speak on call too, we put on loudspeaker and went through everything slowly and were also available on many calls we made afterwards to get answers etc.Worse thing you can do is ignore x just speak and say you need time to understand and hoe worried it is making you feel. If not helpful, put phone down and start again to get a nice person 😊😊

Certainly speak to CAB. I have moved from tax credits to universal credit and for that there is a transitional period where you shouldn't be worse off. Check with them if same for ESA?
