Move or Stay Put?

Hiya everyone, and thank you for all replies to my previous post.I saw specialist physio recently it transpires that around S1 area of my spine(?) the disc is squashed probably due to my BMI and this is causing the horrible pain down my left leg that I'm experiencing. It may get better on its own and to be positive, it has improved slightly however I still need to use my elbow crutch when walking and take lots of pain relief. Driving is pretty much a no no and being able to go out and about is very limited.

The specialist asked my gp to review my meds as I'm not getting enough pain relief.

So now I'm on 30mg amiltryptiline and doctor has just added tramadol to try as cocodamol, although working to a certain extent, it's not helping at night.

I can only hope that things improve eventually as I am more or less now disabled to the point that makes day to day life very challenging.

I now have to consider moving house as I have come to the end of the mortgage term with no way to pay off the balance as it was interest only.

I just had a guy here to look into equity release or lifetime mortgage as it is that. I may not be able to do it as the margins are tight but I have to be 💯 committed to do that...

I don't know what to do for the best as I'm on benefits I can't get another mortgage.

However I can apparently have a lifetime mortgage on another property and sell up as usual (which feels like a monumental ask presently).

I wonder if anyone is in similar position and any thoughts much appreciated?

I

If you have reached the end of your mortgage and have no insurance policy to pay off the house (or the policy was inadequate) then you should look into whether you were mis-sold your mortgage.Sit down with Citizens advice and discuss it with them.

If you have equity in your property then you may be better off selling up and moving into tented accommodation. Depending on the political persuasion of your local council you may even get housing appropriate to your disabilities through them.

Hiya thanks for your reply it's much appreciated.

I did go down the missold route a while back, no joy unfortunately!

I'm going to take time to go through checking everything out to make sure I'm not missing anything that may help me.

No problem.

My apologies for the typo ("tented instead of "rented") though living under canvas would definitely be the cheapest option.

I had a little laugh when I read 'tented accommodation '. !

Hi if you are on benefits enquire with your benefits office about the SMI loan.Tell them your situation as this should have been offered to you. It pays interest only on the mortgage and mortgage companies will sometimes be accomodating and freeze your payments if they know the SMI loan is waiting to be set up. Good luck.

Hiya thanks for getting back to me it's really appreciated.

I thought this type of loan you mentioned on my mortgage from universal credit had to be repaid so I hadn't followed it up as I didn't want to add any more debts?

I could be wrong and it may be too late as my current end of term is July.

It pays the interest on the mortgage and is repaid when the house is sold or transferred. Worth looking into with the DWP and your mortgage company as a way of staying in your property.

Hi,make sure to explain to them your situation with your disabilities and how vulnerable you feel in losing your home and how it will affect you. They should accomodate for this as you should have been offered SMI a while ago.It might also help you to avoid equity release and keep you in your home. The CAB would help advise further if needed,All the best.

I agree siting with Citizens advice bureau is a good idea and hopefully they can give out the right advice too hel0 you move forward, hopefully you can speak too your doctor again in a few days if pain meds are not working during the night as we all need a fairly good nights sleep , I hope everything works out for you x
