Steroid injection & Fibro.

Evening everyone, I hope you are all managing one way or another.๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had a steroid injection for something not connected to Fibro and if so did you find it helped your fibro pain immensely for a few weeks after?

It happened to me but i'm just wondering if it was a coincidence or if it's worth me exploring more.

Hi there, I am guessing at what that something other than fibro may be.I personly would be inclined to think if a steriod injection helped with the pain. Then it was the other issuie rather than the fibro it helped to relieve.

Steriods tend to help with inflammatory issuies. And fibro is not know to be inflammatory xx

Hiya, thanks so much for your response.

I had two injections at the time I'm on about, one was in the palm of my hand at the base of the middle finger as it had been occasionally locking down, the other was in my wrist for carpal tunnel.

I didn't initially thought anything of it at the time as I hadn't actually got my diagnosis at that point, but I know for a few weeks after I did feel like a different person.

I'm due to go back and see this consultant again next month so I will see if it happens again, or was it just coincidence as has been mentioned x

I've had steroid injections previously before I found out that I had Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, & they helped, but only for the short term, so have had to find other ways of coping.

You'll probably find your Drs would be reluctant to give more than 3 injections a year, &, as I've found they're contraindicated with an associated condition I have, I have found myself refusing any further corticosteroid injections my GP has offered,

As has been mentioned, they are anti inflammatory medications, which wouldn't help with fibro., so any beneficial effects may indeed be coincidental.

Hiya.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

As above I'm due to go back again next month so I will see if it happens again or if it was purely coincidental ...I will let you know x

Hiya.

Thankyou for replying.

It would be interesting to see how long that lasts for you, I can say I felt good for about 3 weeks, although it came back just as bad as it always was, would be great if it just took it away for ever hey....x

Hi . I have a steroid injection in my knees every 6 months for the past 3 years, due to have a knee replacement soon. I have had fibromyalgia for many years. And it has not any difference to my fibromyalgia pain.

Hiya.

Thanks for replying.

I didn't expect it to make any difference to it, but I did feel so much better for it for about 3 weeks after.

I would think its more coincidental than anything else...x

There are some people whom have found some decrease in their Fibro pain from steroid use , but usually , as Dizzy mentioned that is because they probably have another pain issue happening that does improve with steroids. One reason you may feel that the Fibro pain has also been relieved for a few weeks at the moment is likely to be that the other problem was triggering your Fibro symptoms more than usual. Solving your inflammatory pain problem could have just got rid of the thing that caused this specific flare , but it would not necessarily mean that regular steroids would give you the same relief if you get a Fibro flare caused by something else.

Have you tried other medications which are common to use for Fibro neuro pain?

Hiya.

Thankyou for replying.

I take Pregablin, codeine & ibuprofen for the pain.

I'm due to see this consultant again next month so it will be interesting to see if it helps it again or if it was purely coincidental....x

I had an injection in my hip. No effect for about 2 weeks and then I realised that both the hip and the fibro pai had decreased. Both were still there but certainly less severe. This lasted for about 4-6 months and then gradually went up to old levels.

Hiya.

4/6 months is a long time to feel some sort of benefit, It's a shame it didn't stay that was permanently for you...x

Iโ€™ve had steroid injections for frozen shoulders a number of times. It has made no difference to the fibro

Hiya.

Seems it may help some but does nothing for others..

Maybe it is just coincidental......x

fibro can be unpredictable. Itโ€™s often hard to tell where fibro starts and crosses over with other conditions. The steroids really helped my shoulders get some function back
