I agree entirely with Hidden You did so well to wean yourself off pain meds but your body is telling you that you need them. I just couldn’t survive with all the mixture of tablets. I have read your other post and I also have missed out and cried for my past life. Some of my family moved on for a life with their in laws and I have missed out as couldn’t even hold the youngest in my arms as too weak and babysit etc but we have to look ahead and get these meds down us.There are side effects but give me a side effect any day than pain and not been able to do even the basics.when your body gets stronger if then you want to scale back on some meds try but you need some. Please ring the doctor today and don’t struggle anymore.I hope this operation helps you enormously

When I read your post it struck a cord with me as for along time I felt my daughter was very much with her in-laws and when it came to holidays etc I wasn’t able to join in , I give 100 percent and I felt very hurt that the love was not coming back to me or appreciation , I found it very hard to cope with and would get upset. The last 18 months my daughter has separated from her husband and I think now she has realised what myself and hubbie actually did and still do. So you have my understanding. There are some lovely people on here that certainly deserve better, take care xx

Hi, I understand what you are going through. I did the same as you, thinking taking meds was a sort of weakness. I've come to realise that I need pain relief. We deserve a pain free life. It's hard to find medicines that work, so if you have found something that works then as your Dr for it. I'm so sorry that you are feeling sad and lonely especially at this time of year. I hope you have someone to look after you after your operation. Take care.

I too weaned myself off a couple of my meds, Gabapentin and Co-codomol. The Gabapentin didn't seem to be making a difference, and I was concerned that I was addicted to the Co-codomol as I was taking the maximum dose and they didn't seem to be helping much. I now take Co-codomol when the pain is severe and they really do help. I have carried on taking Amitriptyline. Sometimes I can go for days without them, and sometimes I just use Paracetamol on it's own. You should talk to your GP regarding the meds and hopefully you will be able to work out between you what will help. It may be a bit of trial and error at first. I can sympathise with you because I am also experiencing a flare at the moment, and have to admit that I take a tot of brandy, as well as the Amitriptyline to help me sleep through the night.

I hope your op goes well for you and take care x

Oh dear, just what you don't need on the runup to Christmas. Can you get hold of a doctor to get back on medication for awhile?

Cheers, midori

Well; as I have been unable to get to see my doctor since the pandemic started, I have been treating myself gently and self- medicating as necessary. Only Ibuprofen and the last few tablets of CoDydramol, which I am keeping strictly for days which are too painful.

I'm lucky in two ways, firstly that as a retired nurse I have my knowledge to call on and second I'm in a pretty stable period with the Fibro. There are a few niggles; arthritis is setting in and also as I'm less active due to shielding. I am losing muscle tone.

Hopefully, we will be able to get out and about soon!

Cheers, Midori

Hello, I am sorry to read it’s been such a rubbish year, perhaps like the others have said start again with pain meds to take off this nasty pain, i am on duloxtene , most of the time I can stick to one tablet of 60mg a day but I can up the dose if things get worse, I have Codiene which is very effective for like the 1st two hours but I am only allowed to take this when pain levels are higher and not all the time. It’s been one of those days I just want to soak in a warm bath and sleep , I do seem to ache more in Winter months as well. I hope the operation goes okay and you have family or friends to keep an eye on you. Take care, let us know how everything goes when you are able x
