Any advice
Ask your GP to check you for a stomach ulcer/excess acid. If it only happens at this time of year, it could be due to the extra stress of Christmas, or (more likely) the excessive and rich food which we all eat. I would hate to make a suggestion of a diagnosis but recommend you have a look at Fodmap Diet and, perhaps, ask your GP to refer you to a dietician. In the meantime get well, stay safe and remember to keep us advised of your progress.
Hi, welcome, are you keeping a food diary, see what triggers your symptoms, it could be IBS, stress related or just the wrong foods. The pain under the rib sounds like Costochondritis, it’s a tear in the tendon, a small one , it is very painful. And if you are going to the toilet lot more, it will aggravate it, I could be totally wrong on both accounts, buts it’s worth looking it up, and see if you have the same symptoms.
Good luck, I hope it calms down soon.
Take care.
Hello, I'm 58 and have had bad menopause symptoms for over 4 years - this and fibro combined really heightens the pain for me - just a thought. I get daily pains in my ribs and at times nausea and cramping in my oesophagus after eating. These come and go but worse when dealing with a virus or stress (so xmas is not good for me!). I no longer take any medication apart from nightly paracetamol; but have controlled my diet which has helped enormously for me. I do not have gluten, dairy, chocolate, alcohol, restricted sugar, caffeine; plus other items that a food intolerance test showed up. I used to take a lot of vitamins but now have one multivitamin tablet and a probiotic tablet each day. I have monthly acupuncture which really helps me plus, have started taking Chinese herbs. My body does not tolerate HRT at all. I hope you can find ways of dealing with this; as what works for one fibromite may not for another. Take care
Hi yes I’m perimenopause and have realised alot of this is hormonal I think the more you worry the worse it gets it’s a vicious circle😬.I’m changing my diet as know when I eat better it feels better but I’m trying to eat good foods for menopause that are not good foods for stomach problems so again😭😭what to bloody do.Thankyou for your reply🙏🏻
Ps why did you stop with the vitamins?
I came off amitriptylene over 2 years ago - quicker than I should have done and had awful withdrawal symptoms for about 6 months. When I finally stopped taking them I had to get the paramedics out as my body had some sort of epileptic fit due to the withdrawal. Due to this I decided to cut back on the vitamins as found I had become sensitive to various tablets, etc. Love this condition NOT
That’s awful I’m so sorry it must of been so scary .Our poor bodies are trying so hard to look after us but all these complications come along .I do think some of my vitamins make me feel worse but I also get great results from them I’m going to start a probiotic with micro flora from tomorrow see if this works🙏🏻
Probiotics are great - I have a really good one from Healthspan. Even my dog, Caico is on them (dog ones of course) as he was born with big tummy issues - he's 11 now and doing fine Good luck with the diet - I hope your fibro issues improve
If the pain is in the sternum ie immediately between the ribs where it goes from hard to soft then this is definitely heartburn. It can feel like your having a heart attack. You could have a hiatal hernia which is very common but they should have mentioned this a f you had a gastroscopy. Foods to avoidCitrus fruit
pineapple
tomatoes
tomato sauce or foods that use it, such as pizza and chili
Alcohol particularly red wine
Carbonated drinks and sodas
Chocolate
Mint
Spicy food
Garlic and onions
Fatty foods like bacon and sausages
Stress
These may not all affect you but it’s trial and error. Chocolate and red wine are all big no nos for me. Nausea is a common problem with acid reflux as is coughing at night, bad breath and hiccups. Some people get none of these symptoms.
Have you tried gaviscon or Zantac which you can buy from the chemist, or ppi’s from the doctor May be worth a try to see if these help but you should try and figure out what’s causing it rather than popping pills long term as these come with their own problems. There are lots of non medicines to try if it is heartburn but you need to see figure out if that’s what you’ve got first.
