Pregablin coming off

Hi everyone

I have started to wean myself off of the above which is causing all types of pain everywhere but now thinking perhaps I should be overlapping it with amitripline so there is no gap as I have seen that some people have been on both but not sure if I want double the side effects ?

I would be grateful for your thoughts or shared experiences.

Thank you xx

Are you weaning off under the guidance of your gp or on your own? Have you been prescribed amitriptyline to take - your gp should have explained if you were to come off one before starting there other, or if they could be overlapped

Hi yes my GP knows and he suggested coming off PG and starting the other one but he warned I would be in pain as it can take up to 6 weeks to feel any benefits so i would need a painkiller but did not suggest which one so hence the question about overlapping. Thanks you x

It is extremely hard to reduce.I seem to be extra sensitive to any change and even reducing by 25 mg sends me very sick. Has your doctor given you a reduction plan so less of a shock to your body

He suggested going down to 25mg then every other day... although I was planning to reduce by 10% every week but I agree with you it’s really challenging to reduce as my body does not like the changes x

Sorry to learn of your pain whilst on Pregablin. Do you think the tablets have made the fibro worse then? I have been on them for about 6 weeks now & at the start it was like a miracle drug! Free from any pain, then gradually it got worse. Dr increased the dose & im now experiencing stomach pains at night/early morning together with the back pain which started this all off! I experienced a few days of extreme dizziness when it was increased although that has settled down ( I’m not sure if that was the tablets of the vaccine that caused that!)

It’s all a balancing act isn’t it? I do hope you are able to get sorted with your pain & find some relief. I do know someone who has been a fibro sufferer for a while & she takes amitripline for sleeping & she find that works for her. However no one person is the same so best get it checked out with your Dr. Good luck!

Hi yes it was good at first but I started getting weird side effects such as the dizziness and difficulty climbing the stairs and stomach issues. I know PG is used by many and there are lots of different thoughts on its use. It’s a challenge to find the right medication that suits. My dizziness got so bad that I ended up in A&E but had to put it down to PG. I hope it works for you xx

Hi I also tried to come off pregabalin this week because I felt sleepy all the time and I was still in pain, I have been on it for 3 years and made the mistake of just taking half of what I was taking, but I was really dizzy, had a lot more pain and looked on YouTube to see all the information on withdrawals, so I'm going to go to the GP now and do it properly 😊

You have to be careful in lowering/ weaning off PG as you can’t do it quickly as there are lots of withdrawal effects. I have been researching and there are support groups who can help if you wanted their details ? X
