So sorry to hear that you are being made redundant, then the added stress of your pip review.

Do you have local cab or welfare rights officer you can get help from, for completing the forms. ? FMA UK benefits helpline can also send you guidelines to complete it if you need this

There is no truth in what you have been told about reviews defaulting to standard or losing your award. Awards for enhanced rates are still being made to those who have enough points.

So sorry about the redundancy. As far as I know there is no truth about the PIP defaulting it should still be decided on an individual basis. X

People on the Enhanced Rates of PIP are subject to light touch reviews. It is very unlikely that they could take it all away and there is no truth in the rumours you quote about DWP defaulting people on to standard rates. Every claimant is assessed individually. Stop worrying and prepare to claim ESA when your job finishes. As you are on the Enhanced Rates of PIP, you should sail through the ESA/Universal Credit assessment.

I’ve never heard of a light touch review. What is that? I’m on the enhanced rate for both so would be very interested to find out more x

If you receive either or both enhanced rates of PIP and your health condition is unlikely to improve, you may be given an ongoing award of PIP in what is referred to as a 'light touch' review - this means your award will be reviewed every 10 years.

Thank you for that but I am up for review in 3 years. I haven’t been advised of the light review or the review being extended for 10 years

in reply to releasethemagic

This isn’t true..it’s a press release... the ‘light touch review’ process has not been devised yet....

PIP started in 2013 so the first people this will apply to is those that received a ten year award in 2013 and after, therefore not going to happen until at least 2023..

People of pension age who are already in receipt of PIP will continue to receive it after they become pensioners..but will not be able to make applications for an increased award (double check that bit)....

Enhanced/Enhanced like myself who are nowhere near pension age and were given a 5 year award still have to reapply

As will everyone on a 2 year award or less

My only hope is that they WILL continue with E/E but they are still relying on APs with dubious medical knowledge so the fear continues.....

I have just had a light touch review after a 4 year double enhanced award was due to expire. I now have a ten year award. They asked for no forms to be completed, no face to face, and no telephone assessment. I just got a letter saying they were satisfied and I was getting a ten year award. I am not a pensioner.

Pensioners already receiving PIP can be moved up or down if the impact of their disability changes. Pensioners not on PIP cannot apply for it - they have to apply for Attendance Allowance instead.

Good for you! Hope I get the same response when I phone for my renewal forms... I presume you did this...?

I thought you only got light touch if you had been awarded 10 years or retired on the subject of esa do I need sickness certificate of doctor

angelm54 profile image
angelm54 in reply to Jam1861

As far as i am aware the light touch review is only for those reaching pension age, my review before August (when i reached 66) was every 3 years, it got extended till June from December, but as i reached pension age in August they sent an ongoing award . You will need Doctors reports on your illness to be able to claim ESA but fill the forms in, they will then ask you for medical proof. Good luck !!

Hi Jam1861,Sorry to hear about your redundancy. Hope you can find some comfort in the fact that the nonsense rolling around about reducing your claim is just that, Chinese whispers and odd behaviour of people who start this nonsense. Your award will stand, it is unlikely that you have made a miraculous recovery and as you say things are worse now so it's unlikely that your award will change even at assessment.

I'm aware that DWP are sending letters for an extension while they sought a health professional to complete a telephone review, and it may be that they will be able to offer a re-assessment before December and will write to you with the appointment if that's the case. A lot of the assessors have been required to return to the NHS currently due to Covid so they're covering your claim to make sure no one is suddenly without their entitlement under circumstances beyond anyone's control. I work with some of the returning staff at the NHS and have the information from them. Some will go back to being DA's once covid is truly under control.

It does enraged me when rumours are past around and cause such distress to others and hope you can be comforted by the support and real information on this site.

Hugs and best wishes xx

Thank you I already have my review form it came on Saturday but they told.me cause my review was extended till Dec tgey would nit be reviewing till July so was shocked when it can thru the letter box this on top of everything else is horrible and then the rumours but when you read how people on the benefits and work website have had there pip taken off them when they have gotten worse it makes you believe that the rumours are true I have not been thru a review and was awarded enhanced when I first applied without having to go to Mr or appeal it was awarded foe 4 years till.march 2021 then they extended it cause of covid now they reviewing earlier than they told.me so worried have I done something wrong or are they trying to take pip off me

Like I said, they sent most people an extension letter as they did not have staff to do the assessments due to the majority being seconded back to NHS so you have not done anything wrong, they just have more appointment availability quicker than they first thought. Talk to your GP and ask for a supportive letter, and remember when the call comes you will be talking to a health professional who is there to help you get all the details over.

The CAB or fight4justice can help word the review form if you need it. Hugs and best wishes xx
