Hi I have just had PIP turned down. I have worked for myself for 28 years never claimed for anything. Due to my illness I can’t do many hours a week. I was told by a customer that has fibromyalgia to claim PIP so I went through the process. Because I can wash myself, walk and get dressed myself I’m not entitled to it. My customer works 4 days a week and can do all those things. I’m totally confused are people by economical with the truth I wonder.

Hi Goldendoodle1972 - I'm sorry your PIP claim was unsuccessful. You can ask for this to be looked at again by another DWP decision maker, normally within one month of the date on your decision letter. The details about this Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) should be at the end of your decision letter.
Just to stress, that having someone else say you ought to claim PIP, sometimes even a GP who kindly recommends this, doesn't mean you might be 'entitled' to this. It all depends on how your disability affects you compared to the activities of daily living &/mobility that are looked at with PIP. It's these, rather than looking at any diagnosis you have that are actually more important. Please look at the following descriptors/activities that relate to PIP: cambridgeshire.gov.uk/asset... which may help you decide whether to pursue a MR. Also, you can't really compare yourself to another, as you don't know exactly how another is affected, & you can claim PIP & also work. There are actually very few fraudulent claims, rather people don't understand how to complete the initial PIP claim form, so some are initially turned down.
Hi, you can contact FMA UK's benefit helpine on 0300 999 0055 (Mon, Wed, Fri 10.00-12.00) or email benefits.advice@fmauk.org
They can provide guidelines on how to appeal pip decisions
Pip is not as simple as can you do an activity - it also takes into account can you do it reliably, safely, repeatedly, to and acceptable standard and in a timely manner.
For example, I can dress myself but i need to stop for a short rest after putting clothes on lower half, before I put on top half. I also need assistance at times. I often go without a bra because I cannot fasten it. I need to rest after dressing before doing anything else
I can walk but I am in severe pain, even with a few steps. I cannot walk more than a very short distance repeatedly. I have poor balance so I am at increased risk of falls. My walking is slow so I take longer than average for my age. Walking increases pain and fatigue so I need to rest during and after.
With pip it's very important that you explain fully the effects find a task has on you. And that includes how you are after the task.
PIP as you know is a state benefit to help and assist with your daily living activities and mobility issues. A lot of people assume they can claim PIP or are entitled to it because they have a certain disability, diagnosis or illness. When applying for PIP you have to read the information pack first then carefully answer the questions giving as mush information that relates to how and why you can not preform the PIP descriptiors being referred to in the questionnaire. Use additional paper if you need to putti your name and National insurance number on each additional sheet used. Thetr6is a back log for MRs and initial PIP assessments.
Hello , I can see you have had some very helpful advice and I wish you well in your next attempt and hope it is successful, I can understand your frustration, take care.
Take a look at my previous post where there are a number of guides that can help you prepare a request for a Mandatory Reconsideration, an appeal or a fresh PIP claim.
I can understand your frustration. I have been forced to give up my job due to Fibromyalgia. I have never had any benefits in all the years I have had it. But I can walk also. Struggle to lead a normal life though.
