Can taking a lower dose of cocodamol cause side effects. (I've been taking 2 15/500 and have gone down to 1 15/500 and 1 8/500)

Some.people find that their body gets used to the codeine and their get withdrawal symptoms if they decrease the dose. Perhaps try taking the lower dose alternative days and see if it eases the symptoms.x

The simple answer to your question is yes. I have been on codeine for many years. If I have been on the full dose of 8 x 30/500mgs it can take weeks to reduce and fully stop taking them.

Hi in short - yes - but you can take up to 8 paracetamol a day. I was on them too, but I cut down very happily by using more paracetamol tablets once you are down to one cocodamol just ensure you have the paracetamol at regular intervals then once this is okay you'll know when to try to drop down further. But please take your time - and perhaps wait until the weather has much improved. Also your GP should be consulted as there are other painkillers that might be a better fit for you. All the best

No I don't do that it's just cocodamol, I think what the other person meant was to take one dose of cocodamol a day and if needed use paracetamol the rest of the day

Hi again, just wanted to say that Co-codamol is codeine and paracetamol and while I would agree that you should talk to your GP or even a pharmacist before making changes to your medication - the caution is that you never have more than the equivalent of 8 of 500mg (4000 mgs) of paracetamol a day. If you take cocodamol this must factored in so that you do not exceed 3000mg or 6 paracetamol tablets. I was just trying to point out that it's the codeine that causes dependency not the element of paracetamol and offering information in relation to the question asked. All the best x

Yes, you may experience side effects, certainly in my case - having dropped to one tablet a day, taken at bed time, I experienced bad side effects for about a week after stopping completely. Side effects started at the same time as I would have taken the nightly tablet. Side effects were muscle spasms, kicking legs, punching the air, thankfully after the week things settled down.
