Newly diagnosed with Fibro ....any help?

I’ve recently been diagnosed with fibro on sept 2019 and to date I’ve had no treatment plan or help in how to cope with this . I’m constantly absent from my work due to severe pains and extreme tiredness and yes I also do have the memory issues starting. Is there anything that I can do to get on with things while I await my action plan from the clinics? I’ve also started to use a crutch fir my right hand side due to my right side always getting really weak and my leg just giving way from under me.

Hi

I'm so sorry you are struggling. I've got a walking stick but I also have a 3 wheeled walker with a seat, it's great. Take care e

Hi Chadwell

I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia in September. I use alot of heat bags and hot water bottles for the pain. I also take magnesium for pain and b12 for memory.

I also use a stick but thinking of getting a zimmerframe for really bad days.

You could also try epsom salts baths.

Hope this helps until you get a plan in place

Hi

Feeling your pain 😢

Who exactly are you waiting for a plan from? The Pain Management Clinic? A Rheumatologist? Whichever it is, chase, chase, and chase again! Ask your GP to write a letter.

Also, the muscle weakness is a concern and only adds to the pain. So I would make an appointment with your GP ASAP and request some physiotherapy sessions. You should be able to get 6 for free.

Often you have to be very pushy to get the treatment you need with this disease. It’s not really my style to be pushy, but trust me, you’re unlikely to get the help you require otherwise. Not quickly anyway! If you find it hard being pushy in person or over the phone, I find emailing or writing a letter is very effective.

As for managing in the meantime, you could try gentle stretches for fibro sufferers (google this). Also, a TENS machine could help. Gentle massage can be useful sometimes too.

It’s also very important to manage your physical and emotional stress. And critical to eat really healthily (no processed foods, reduce gluten and dairy intake etc) and drink plenty of water.

Feel free to ask more questions - no problem at all xx

You may wish to get a copy of a book by Dr Sarah Myhill on CFS - could provide ideas about combatting fatigue.
