Hi, my name is maggie and ive recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, although I've been suffering with constant pain all over my body i get most of it in my lower back, down my left side and in the back of mh neck. I hadn't heard of fibro until a friend of mind her daughter was diagnosed with it about 2 years ago after a long agonising trips to her doctors, fortunately my doctor is lovely and very understanding and he wasn't about to give up until he discovered what was going on, so now I've found out i would however like to know more so i could make more bosses at work aware of how this could affect me.

For many years I have found conventional pain relief helps along with weekly hydrotherapy, you will need to ask G.p if there is a service even if its a few miles away you will benefit..in the meantime see if here is a Jacuzzi near by and go for a soak in The warm bubbles

Hi.
Now, that sounds lovely. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Yes, start accessing whatever services you have locally. I am on a waiting list for hydrotherapy and I was able to attend a free Tai Chi course. I think there is a pack you can ask for on this site, which might help your bosses and colleagues gain some insight.
So pleased you found us but sad that you've been diagnosed with this horrible condition. I hope you were referred here by your GP.
Firstly, glad to hear you've received a quick diagnosis. It normally takes GPs a good couple to three years to reach this conclusion. May I ask, were you were referred to a Rheumatologist who confirmed it?
I was also wondering what sort of work you did - you don't have to tell us but it may be useful in suggesting ways in which you can go about making things slightly less painful, tiring or less difficult going forward. To be fair, virtually every job is complicated to do with this condition - depending on the severity of your symptoms.
Working in Social Care became too much to cope with. The pain, exhaustion and IBS was one thing but what tipped me over the edge was the 'Brain Fog' as good information recall is an essential element of the role.
One last note of caution, Fibromyalgia shares similar symptoms with other conditions so it may be worth double and triple checking. It's also a condition that likes to run parallel with other health issues like Lupus so do watch out for them.
You can find some excellent information (some you can download) in the Right Hand column of the Fibromyalgia Home Page.
Wishing you all the best and don't hesitate to drop us a line when something comes to mind and we'll do all we can to help. Everyone on this site is really nice.
