FMA Uk do not feel this is a viable petition and issued the following bulletin to our support groups and Martin at UKFM

"While Fibromyalgia Action UK supports the ultimate aim of the petition to help people with fibromyalgia to benefit from pain relief, at this moment in time, Fibromyalgia Action UK’s primary focus remains on the topic of evidence-based treatment and management of fibromyalgia.

As of 1 November 2018, some cannabis-based products became legal for medicinal use in the UK. Fibromyalgia Action UK is aware that a large proportion of people with fibromyalgia may use cannabis-based products to help with pain relief. As such, Fibromyalgia Action UK welcomed this development by the Government, as well as action from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to develop guidance, which is currently in development and is due to be published on 21 October 2019.

Fibromyalgia Action UK is a registered stakeholder of these guidelines and will be contributing throughout the development process with the input of people with fibromyalgia. In a recent survey that Fibromyalgia Action UK recently conducted, over 77% of those who responded said that they had used cannabis-based products for pain relief. Anecdotal evidence currently exists saying that people with fibromyalgia find cannabis-based products beneficial in providing pain relief; however, there is a lack of clinical studies in this area. Fibromyalgia Action UK would welcome further clinical research which specifically looks at the benefits and risks of cannabis-based products for people with fibromyalgia.

People living with fibromyalgia must be informed of any potential side effects that cannabis-based products may cause. Clear guidance for health care professionals and people living with fibromyalgia relating to the prescription of cannabis-based products are very important to ensure that these products are used in the most appropriate way for each individual.

With this in mind, Fibromyalgia Action UK have taken the position to continue to engage with the NICE process of developing guidelines, therefore not actively support the petition as it currently stands.

The government has responded to the petition and you can find this here: petition.parliament.uk/peti...

Nice Guidance on Cannabis-based products for medicinal use can be found at nice.org.uk/guidance/indeve... with its expected guidance publication date on 21/10/19.

Ok, I understand. The evidence based research needs to be done first. Glad to hear Fibromyalgia Action UK are a ststakeholder with NICE in developing guidelines. Thanks for your reply.
