Glandular Fever

Anyone heard if Glandular Fever could 'develop' fibromyalgia?

I caught this when I first started teaching over 40 years ago and heard this could have caused the development of fibromyalgia?

I did have a serious crash where a HGV hit my car head on attempting to overtake another HGV 20 years ago with ongoing problems, so not sure, I think I am just trying to find a reason?

Hi Collie-Dog 😊🌸🌿🦋

I’ve heard of glandular fever but don’t remember if this causes FM.

I’m in the USA 🇺🇸 and there is a world 🌎 renowned clinic that is great for excellence and care.

If you go to mayoclinic .org you will be able to get so many questions answered and trusted.

I hope this is helpful. Take care.

😊🌸🌿🦋🤗💗😘

Yes. I had glandular fever after I had chicken pox. Had chicken pox when I was 16 and missed my first works do. I had glandular fever at 18. I have also had a lot of stress and trauma along with bullying mentally all my life. I mentioned glandular fever to my rheumatologist and it is being quite a common illness people seem to have had. Xx

I had a bad reaction joint wise to Glandular fever many, many years ago. It affected my right ankle badly and I was initially mis diagnosed ( a common problem For me). Had my ankle in plaster etc. Eventually I saw a Rheumaloligist specialist and he said it was because I had, had Glandular Fever. Hard to believe at the time, but years later it was mentioned more widely. But I have to add, Although I have had and still have various joint problems, I have never been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. And I have yet to hear of another person who has had a similar experience to mine regarding Glandular fever. My right ankle remains weak to this day. My left ankle, well that's another hard to believe story !

Hi, I had glandular fever when I was 16 but, just personally, I don't thing there is a connection as it is glands problem not muscular. I do remember when I was taken to the doctors at the age of 8 because I had pains all over my body the doctor saying that it was 'growing pains'. When I was 30 I developed Fibrositis in my arm after having to wear a surgical collar for 3 months - it was the same pain in the same area in my arm that the initial Fibro pain began in - the doctor said the only thing that may help is if I emigrated to a warmer climate (that was funny and not sarcastic). With no medical knowledge whatsoever I believe that is something that is in your body/brain/blood that can lie dormant or can be activated through stress or other factors

According to my consultant, viral infection has been implicated in some cases of development of Fibromyalgia. In particular the Epstein Barr virus (which is connected to glandular fever). As a former haematology nurse, I’m aware that there is a connection between viral infection and some lymphomas which does suggest that some viruses can disrupt things on a deeper level. In my case, I most definitely developed it following a viral attack from the chicken pox family.

my rheumatologist said to me that glandular fever seemed to play a role in developing fibromialgia. xx

There is a strong trigger for viral illnesses, particularly glandular fever to cause autoimmune problems, thyroid disease being a common one.

After prolapse surgery I awoke to severe pain in my leg..my sciatic nerve was damaged.

From that day my pain had spread down legs feet arms ,in fact wide spread pain

all over.I am sitting here now with all the same pains after four years.

I do think that this mainly caused my Fibro.Firstly diagnosed by my Chiropractor whose concern sent me to a rheumatologist.I also nearly died with scepticemia about a year before, could it have been all the intensive antibiotics that were used that triggered my Fibro...Who knows. It's a mystery.xx

Forgot to say nearly straight after the op.i suffered a very bad case of

Labrynthititis which I believe may be viral. That is really bad, would rather be in pain than have that again..I would love to feel the joy of living again.Best wishes for you.xxx

Hiya - there is a link between glandular fever and M.E. and me and Fibro are under the same umbrella with overlapping symptoms.

I have suffered from M.E for about 13 years but only diagnosed in 2013. I was also diagnosed with fibro in 2008 but nothing was done to help me.

Hope you get some answers xx

I had glandular fever, and when I was diagnosed with Fibro and CFS/ME. They said it could be part of what caused my conditions.

Hi, I had glandular fever when I was 17 and I can remember the GP telling me to rest properly otherwise I could have problems. But at 17 you don't take any notice of good advice!!😁. I can also remember other people saying that they had chronic fatigue after glandular fever. So maybe that is a cause, you never know.

I had really bad glandular fever inwhen I was 19 and it took me 2 years to fully recover , I am now 53 and had Fibromyalgia for 18 years

Whether it is related , I have no idea, however that said viruses like that never completely leave your body but become dormant ,

A bit like chicken pox , lays dormant for years or forever , but sometimes wakes up and you have shingles

Not what you're looking for?
