A bit of detective work

Easter Saturday I went to London for the Sherlock Holmes Museum. It really is at 221b Baker Street. (Actually a false address as the Abbey National occupied the real site but don't spoil it by telling anyone). The queue was huge so I asked the doorman "if I join it, how long to the door" He said about 1 1/2 hours. I said I'll come back another day. No way can I stand that long. He said "get your ticket. You're in the next group". Made my day. Well worth a visit if you're in the area and not far from Madame Tussaud's.

Hiya you do go to some amazing places glad that the doorman let you in earlier would have been such a shame if you had to go another day. Love & Hugs Xx

How I miss it down there, so many places to visit and have fun.

Glad you got in, in the end. That would have been a painful wait. I love the pictures to x

amazing place. It is a suitable house in just the right place and the rooms are tableaux of what they imagine. They're filled with genuine Victorian antiques, including a box of instruments for Dr Watson

I'd love that, I am a massive Sherlock fan and still love watching the old Basil Rathbone movies even though they are historically incorrect (Holmes wasn't around to help defeat the Nazis in WW2!). I remember many years ago taking my mum to visit the Coronation St set in Manchester and I was beyond excited to discover that the set of the Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett (my all time fave Sherlock) was on the same lot. So pleased you were able to get in and enjoy it, you are now one of the Baker St irregulars lol. x

oh, the staff were wonderful. Most were fans, but it was strange to have Mrs Hudson with an east European Accent. Didn't matter to the visitors. Many were from abroad.

Talked to one man about connections. I used to stay on Dartmoor a lot and worked on Foxtor Mire - the inspiration for Grimpen Mire. There is a Merripit House and a Laughter Tor (but not Laughter Hall). I've been to Conan Doyle's burial place in the New Forest (Minstead). Black Swan Buildings in Winchester is mentioned - but the one there now is not the original which burnt down. And I've even been to Groombridge House Kent where he stayed for a while. (I only discovered that after I'd been there) All good fun

You have certainly followed in Holme's/Doyles footsteps by the sounds of things. Dartmour, Winchester and London bit of a trek for me but I would love to do a Holmes/Doyle pilgrimage of some sort one day. I have always been fascinated by Arthur Conan Doyle as he seemed to almost have a split intellectual personality - on one hand he created a character as logical and calculating as Holmes but then on the other had a belief in fairies and ghosts etc. x

giving away my age it was Basil Rathbone with his improbably large magnifying glass that started me off :O

Hi Hun, I’m so pleased you managed to get in to see it. I used to work just around the corner from there at the heart hospital, so had to walk past it to get to work. Unfortunately, I never found the time to go and look at it. I’m so jealous you got to see it lol. Take care and love and hugs to you xx🤗
