Has anyone been sent for a biopsy if the lip.

Why have you been asked to do this? what did you present with to be offered this?

Think it is part of the process of diagnosis for Sjogren's syndrome

I didnt have lip biopsy when i was diagnosed, I had tongue scrapping (which has left damaged soft tissue) ive had a polyp taken off tongue with a local needle pushed thru the end that was worse than dental treatment,, the things we have to go thru!!

Have you been seen by an eye hospital? They may have other tests for Sjogrens now. If you google your nearest eye hospital or one of the famous ones they should have info on their tests for Sjogrens just to see if any other tests apart from a lip biopsy are now available..

oh. is that what rheumy is testing me for. sjogrens. he said sending me for lip biopsy but maybe a waiting list. I have a really dry mouth all the time. had it for years. x

I had mine done with a blood test looking for ANA? I was also asked to produce as much saliva as I could in 5 minutes, my tongue is the problem, I have some saliva but cannot keep my tongue moist..The treatment for sjorgrens is harsh and so i reverted to mild toothpaste (non sod bicarb) and a mouth wash from Boots-Expert" or pronamel mouthwash both have an oily base and help keep moisture, I carry some around in a spray when I.m out.

I was referred to dental hospital in Sheffield and they did a scan instead of biopsy, no pain etc. I did think of asking for the sex as they were doing scan as its similar to 1 when pregnant lol but over throat, saliva glands etc . Hope it all goes well

yeah that's it, to do with dry mouth. what was the outcome for you? x

Hi, no sjogrens, just dry mouth and eyes. I was given a gel to use at night for dry mouth and drops and gel for eyes as I don't produce tears. I have lupus so maybe part of that. I have also a toothpaste that dentist prescribes as my teeth are affected too.

Hi I've had a lip biopsy and it was the dentist who referred me to the dental hospital to have it done, it was because of a brown spot on my lip, after the biopsy they put it down to being a freckle, I hope it all goes well for you and you manage to stay calm and relaxed

I had a biopsy done inside my lip because I had a very dry mouth, still have it. They thought it might be the big c but it wasn't, in fact they couldn't find anything that it could be.

So I'm now still left with my very dry mouth which my meds have made even worse, although I didn't think that was possible! Doc Judd said that I have to learn to live with it as the nothing he can give me to take it away or make it any less.

Went for lip biopsy. Looking for Sjorgrens. Not positive. Now give me diagnosis of sicca/Sjorgrens. Went to ophthalmologist for dry eyes. Said eyes are congested. New eye drops and ointment go again in 4months. At least the new eye drops seem to keep my eyes more moist. Use 4 times a day.
