Hi I was initially on sertraline and then changed to duloxetine due to nerve pain and a spinal issue. I saw a gp on Thursday who told me to just stop taking duloxetine. She said I didn't need to reduce it gradually but just to stop it. I'm now having headaches, I'm extremely exhausted and feel spaced out, I'm getting electric shock type pain in my foot, disturbed vision amongst other withdrawal symptoms. She wasn't my regular gp and I feel she hadn't got a clue. Is anyone else suffering like this and have you got any advice to help me feel better please?

Withdrawal symptoms
Go back and see her and tell her you're experiencing tranquilliser withdrawal. The side effects of which can be awful. So I'd ask for an appointment asap
Yeah I'm going to phone my usual gp on Monday and ask for her advice. I'm a midwife myself and I know that other gps advice was wrong, but she just wouldn't listen. It's incredibly frustrating when I'm on so much medication already. Thank you so much for replying to me. It's reassuring to know that i'm not going completely mental.
You're definitely not going crazy. I'm a nurse too. I've met lots of people withdrawing from drugs of all kinds. Some doctors know nothing about managed withdrawal....and they are quite dangerous. I'm on a ton of meds too.....but I don't take any nonsense off doctors. Everyone has the right to be heard. I've got fibromyalgia in really big letters on my gp file......I often wonder why that is?
My gp is really good and she put me on duloxetine I believe with good intentions. Unfortunately, due to pain and other medication, perhaps I didn't quite ask enough about this medication. I feel like I'm sleeping forever. It's hard enough coping with things at present let alone feeling like a zombie! I've missed hospital appointments that I've waited for a long time for due to this awful drug. I've developed fibro as a result of my spinal condition. I suppose this means that I now have to cope with back pain, nerve pain and fibro. I wish I'd come on this site years ago because having other people acknowledging what you're feeling and more importantly being able to be a genuine support to others helps more than words can express.
I was prescribed duloxetine, after about six months, had to stop as it caused suicidal ideation. I stopped immediately. I was in such a bad state didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms. Probably had them but just so relieved to feel better. I would never take an antidepressant again. It was prescribed for pain which it did help but the side effects were horrendous. I have down days like most people but this was on another scale. Sorry you are having a bad time. Hope things get better soon.
Has anyone on duloxetine have sever head face sweats ?
I'm not on duloxetine, but have fibro an get a lot of extreme head/face sweats, it seems fibro messes up your body thermometer,a lot of people on here get extreme hot an cold temps, and a lot of people have saide there head an face sweats a lot
Surely she should have tapered you off slowly? May I ask how did you find the sertraline? Xx
Yes she should've but she refused to listen to me! I'm phoning my usual dr today and I know she'll give me the advice we all know that I should've had. The good thing about duloxetine was that it really helped with the pain. It didn't take it away completely but it helped a lot. It's the side effects and withdrawal symptoms that are absolutely horrendous.
I found sertraline great. I'd been on it once before and then returned to it this time. It worked and I didn't have any side effects or withdrawal symptoms. It's a great medicine. I may just be lucky with it but from my experience I would truly recommend it.
I have ongoing severe sweats, particularly on the face area on duloxetine ... they are horrible & embarrassing !! Also Yes there are side effects coming off duloxetine! Best Wishes all XX Pixiewixie
Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on the site for a while but I've had a lot going on. So my usual gp wasn't convinced that what I was experiencing was all to do with the medication. She thought I had developed a severe viral infection that came in after my chest infection. She told me to stay of duloxetine for just over another week. I said she was good before and her diagnosis ended up being pretty accurate. I'm feeling quite a lot better than before and she started me back on the duloxetine at a much lower dose. I've only been on that dose for 4 days but it's not making much of a difference with my pain at present. I'm not sleeping as much and I'm nowhere near as drowsy as previously. It's an absolute nightmare trying to get meds to help with the pain etc isn't it? I'm so fed up with constantly going from one med to another! Anyway I hope you're all ok.
