Sorry i am not sure on exactly who can and can't. And I'm sorry that Dr said what he said.

I do know some people here have been diagnosed by their rumy though, but not sure what other drs can.

I personally feel the neurologist should because to me it seems that if it is an overactive nervous system, ( as we aren't for sure what causes it) he or she would be the specialist to see. I have read that our brain scans do show different activity (can't remember details) than people without fibro. But i haven't personal done a scan so, i don't 100% believe it, but makes more sense to me than other explanations. There are a lot of different theories on what causes fibro.

Sorry i don't have better information. I do hope you can get a diagnosis.

I'm sure someone that can give you better info will respond soon.

Good luck××

I've had a neurologist and a rheumatologist. It was two rheumatologist who said I have fibromyalgia. Still waiting for the neurologist in two months.

Hi ladybob1 it is normally a Rheumatologist but can be a Neurologist & some GPS & if you attend physio, they will more often than not refer you back to GP saying they think it's fibro.

It is unacceptable for a Rheumatologist to pooh poo fibro & i would advise you ask to be refered to another rheumy.

Hope this helps my friend.

Luv Jan xx

I was under a neurologist for a while who was testing me for various things but they never actually mentioned fibro to me. It was only after all other possible conditions had been ruled out that I was referred to a rheumatologist by my GP who diagnosed the fibro. It sounds like the one you were sent to was one of the ignorant ones so as Janet says I would ask your GP to refer you to a different one, preferably one who has some knowledge/experience of fibro. Good luck hun x

Hi there doll. I first saw a neurologist who mentioned the condition to me, but made no attempt to diagnose it at all. As soon as it wasn't MS he wasn't interested. Neurologists can diagnose it and I know people who have been, but a rheumatologist would be your best bet for a concise diagnosis xx

Hi ladybob1

As the others have said, both can diagnose Fibro but usually it is a Rheumatologist that would do this. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you
