I have Fibromyalgia since when it was called fibrositis! Currently I have lots of osteoarthritis,
and a very damaged lower spine. I am due to have a big op in a few weeks for TLIF + decompression. However I heard that after this my FMS will be worse. Can anyone give me any info please. Good Luck to all fellow sufferers and keep your chin up.

Hi florence73 Welcome to our wonderful forum, I'm sure you will love it and find it invaluable chatting to others who are going through the same as you, at different stages of their lives with fibromyalgia.
Like myself I've had fibro for to many years to mention & have Polymyalgia and osteoarthritis, nerve damage in back & feet. All I can say is, people with any medical condition don't do well when having surgery, it usually takes a bit longer to recover, your symptoms will probably be a bit worse than they normally are and you will be more tired. Saying that though, you wouldn't be having this surgery if it wasn't needed, so the best thing to do is make sure your very prepared, try not stress to much, easier said than done, I know, but maybe try some meditation, breathing excersizes, may help you, I do wish you luck and hope it goes well for you and I look forward to chatting with you on the forum. Pls do come back & let us know how it went.
Please do go check out the mother site fmauk.org where you will find lots of useful information and links on fibro and I look forward to chatting with you on the forum
Peace, luv n light

I just wanted to wish you a very warm welcome to the forum
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia & ME in 1980 when I was 20 years old so I feel your pain - literally
Amongst other conditions I also have osteoarthritis in my lower spine which gives me unbelievable pain.
I've had injections in my spine to help with the pain, but all they did was to make my pain worse.
I am currently waiting to have scan on my back.
I have never had the operation you are talking about, but I hope someone will come along who knows about this op and will be able to help you.
I have had so many ops & procedures in the last 36 years and have always had complications afterwards. Whether this is Fibro related I honestly don't know.
I wouldn't say that everyone goes into a flare after an op although if it is a big op like yours, it is probably more the stress before hand of worrying about the op that causes the flare, although we do all react very differently to each other.

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I can imagine that any kind of surgery can create a flare up of Fibro symptoms but according to the *Spine-Health website it shoudl help ease any pain in the region:
*Spine-Health website says:
*Spinal fusion (such as a TLIF) is a surgical technique to stabilize the spinal vertebra and the disc or shock absorber between the vertebra. Lumbar fusion surgery is designed to create solid bone between the adjoining vertebra, eliminating any movement between the bones. The goal of the surgery is to reduce pain and nerve irritation.
Spinal fusion may be recommended for conditions such as spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease or recurrent disc herniations. Surgeons perform lumbar fusion using several techniques. This article describes the transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) fusion technique.
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
