Hi Linzyandsamsmom46

I have just had a quick read on the *Google drug searches and it could be all of them that are affecting your weight. This is what they said about all 3 drugs. If you have any doubts about your medications or wish to talk about your options I would see your doctor and ascertain what they can do for you:

*Meloxicam: Swelling or rapid weight gain

*Amitriptyline: Appetite or weight changes

*Gabapentin: Weight gain

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Ken, thanks! I don't know what to do if I keep gaining weight. I need these meds to help me but gaining weight stinks. Nothing fits.....

Sadly, the alternative medications such as Pregabalin and Nortriptyline also have the same side effects listed on them! I tend to use my TENS Machine when the pain gets too much for me but I appreciate that it is not the answer for all of our pain?

Take care my friend

i agree .i have just started taking pregabalin.i previously was on Amytryptaline.i have gained about 2stone because these medicines make you more hungry. Its a hard one to call,if you gain weight it makes you fat and sluggish and the extra weight isnt good for your joints.if you come off fthe medicines , you end up with pain!!!

i have carried on with the medicines ,but i try to be careful with my diet.

Good morning. I hope the amitryptaline is helping you sleep at night. I take 2 x 25mg at night which give me a good night's sleep. I too asked my Dr the same question but mine was weight not water. So I doubt it the amitryptaline but I'm not a Dr so if it's something your worried about maybe you should ask the pharmacist at your local chemist. Our local one is so good and I know non of mine are the cause of my weight gain. Too many cakes and lack of exercise. Failing that tho you could go back to your Dr as they can give you something for water retention.. Hope you soon get sorted.. love and hugs

Hi I used to take gabapentin for fibromyalgia read somewhere that it really doesn't help so stopped and dropped 2 stone in 6 weeks. I am still a stone over weight for my height but losing that helped ease the stress all round. Hope this helps, good luck x

Hi there, I'm afraid it could be any one of them. I'm on Amitriptyline and there is absolutely no doubt that I have put 5 stone of fat on because of it. It started within the first 2 weeks of taking it and it didn't matter what I did, ate or drank, I couldn't stop it. Plus at the time I was doing hours in gym and one in spinning class 😢

when I tried amitriptyline I could not stop eating. after just two weeks I had to stop as the mega increase in my eating made me want to litraly throw up through eating too much.

It is all a balancing act. I have recently started back on steroids as they have rediagnosed me with polymorphic.

For me it is the fact that I can function better on the meds than without. I would rather gain the weight as I have a better quality of life. I do have a variety of issues but just to be able to minimise some of the pain is worth its weight

Hi Linzyandsamsmom46 I'm afraid as TheAuthor Ken says, all of these are likely to cause weight gain. I take pregablin & amitriptyline and have gained lots of weight over the last few years, as I have had meds increased, the weight had piled on. It's so frustrating, they just increase your appetite and i think slower movements or resting more due to pain all takes its toll & i spend half my life trying to eat sensibly lol

Oh bless I have been on Meloxicam for years it didn't cause weight gain I take it for spondylitis 15 mg max dose started amitriptyline 14 months ago no weight gain gabapentine slight increase in weight just recently after 12 months my GP increased the dose I got very bloated lowered the dose my weight came down but everyone is different in how the react to medication more flare ups and the duration in which they last slows us down needing more rest Could cause our weight to go up speak to your doctor. Sending 🤗Hugs Hel
