Hi. I have fibromyalgia. I found that the prescription drugs where making it worse. I stopped using them and I feel much better. Has anyone else had this experience?

Hello GB, evrybodys Fibro is different, some people cope with needy meds and some don,t need much.. I tried numerous drugs and stopped. I have hydrotherapy and sometimes take co dydramol and a low dose zopiclone to sleep.. If you can manage with some physio, occ therapy you will keep yourself agile, for others its a different story, many on our forum really suffer badly.. Just keep an eye on your energy levels as fatigue kicks in hard if you don't.

I look forward to chatting with you on the forum.

I have had Fibro for many years and I would be unable to move if I didn't take medication but i do also have Polymyalgia. I do know there are people with Fibro that dont take prescription meds though and I'm sure you will get some reply's

We advise members to keep information safe and lock their posts, unlocked posts are open to the internet, I have pasted a link to easy guideline on how to do this.

When I was first diagnosed I noticed that my medication didn't help, but at the time wasnt making it worse, though I probably didn't take them long enough to notice as I didn't even finish the first rx. I just knew it didn't help and I wasn't willing to take anything stronger.

So I have found relief using other more natural/&/physio type methods. Stretching, walking, swimming (when warm outside), other low impact exercises, using magnesium chloride, Eating more veggies and fruits, thinking positive.

I could not function without all those things. If I let one slip I start to crumble. If u get lazy my pain comes stronger and I run the risk of a flare.

Note that sometimes when I've been diligent for a while that if I take a break for a day or so I won't just instantly crumble but I would say more than a week and I will notice that I am cracking.

Good luck and I would be proactive (if i were in your shoes) since you are good. Look up some things that may help you stay good.

Take care×

Hi. I'm doing most of the things you've been doing apart from swimming.(I can't swim.) I also have been using herbal medicine. No side effects. I function better

Hi Hidden

Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. As Hidden says, we all suffer Fibro differently. However, I am truly delighted to read that you are feeling much better as a result. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck my friend and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I also found prescription meds made me worse, so I just take alternative stiff like turmeric tincture and try to do a little exercise every day. I do breathing exercises and take rescue remedy for my anxiety and eat more vegetables and fish. I am one of the few sufferers who has actually improved since their diagnosis.

I just stopped. When I told my doctor he was so happy. He told me he didn't want me on tablets. They do say that you should wean off them. I was taking pregabalin . Zopiclone. Amitriptyline. Among others.

in reply toLinjack

I'd stop now before it's too late.

Hi GP whenever you have a reaction to tabs you should go back to GP and tell them - they will try something else - it also gives them feedback and will be noted on your records that they didn't settle with you.

Don't know how long you were on them but you shouldn't just stop any drug if you've been on them a while.

in reply to

Did that a number of times. I am a human. Not a lab rat. Besides, the medical profession already admits that there is nothing they can offer to help fibromyalgia. Physiotherapy doesn't recommend prescription drugs. The natural remedies help me without side effects.

in reply to

Not that I did physiotherapy. I went to an eight weeks workshop to learn how to live with long term pain. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend that workshop.

Ok that's me put in my place.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.
