Officially diagnosed last week. Would like to know how people get on with Gabapentin for pain relief. Been on a low dose for a while, but I don't think its enough.

HI red_dress4, welcome to the site, I have only joined today, I was on the highest dose you can go up to on gabapentin for a long time and I felt it didnt do anything for me, and I was on Morphine patches aswell, so the doctor put me on Pregablin and I feel a lot better now. im on 300mg a day, plus everything else. hope this helps

not really started to look at medication properly yet, but have been on 3 x 100 Gabapentin a day and 10mg of amitriptyline before bedtime for quite a while now.

Hi red dress4....My GP tried me on Gabapentin but it didn't suit me as it did nothing I am on Tramadol and 50mg Amitriptyline about 1/2hours before bed....plus other meds....If you find a particular med does nothing...why take it?? I hope you get sorted soon. What is so strange about Fibro+ is that some meds suit one person and others find it does nothing!! xx

indeed, I find the amitriptyline is good and I am only on 10mg so I could go up I suppose....

Hi again

You are on just about the lowest dose. The highest dose is over 100mg!

I'm on a list of meds as long as your arm!

Exercise seems to be a good tonic for me, but recently I took an extra 10mg of gabapentin in the day, which seemed to take the edge of things a little bit. Might do it regularly I think..

Hello there

Welcome to the forum :) I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

As you are so newly diagnosed have a look at our mother site. You will find a lot of information about Fibro on there fmauk.org

You have just found yourself a wonderful bunch of new friends who are all here because they have Fibromyalgia (many of us have other conditions too) so we know how you feel.

Unfortunately medication is very much trial and error. It can take a very long time to find the right regime for you. With Fibro what works brilliantly for one person will do nothing for another.

I would suggest that you go and see your GP and ask about upping your dose of Gabapentin and Amitryptyline.

You are on a fairly low dose of both of them.

If you are coping fairly well on these meds and not having too many side effects, my personal advice would be to stick with them and see if you dosage can be increased.

I am on the max of Gabapentin. However, I should point out that I am not a medical professional, but just speaking from my own experiences of both of these meds.

Once again a warm welcome to the forum :)

Hi there and welcome to this great site. I was taking 100mg gabapentin for a while then is was increased to 300mg and that worked for a while I now take 600mg three times a day and find it helps. Meds are trial and error for people with fibromyalgia, i would chat to your GP about it, hope you find some relief. Nice to meet you, furry X

Hi Hidden

Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I take a very lose dose of Pregabalin (which is very similar to Gabapentin). I have 75 mg in the morning and 150 mg at night. I get on with it okay and do not have any tangible side effects.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I was put on 100mg 3 x 3 times per day [900mg total] Gabapentin and it did help.... then they tried Targin 80mg [but am reducing that in the hope to get off it totally,] that did nothing for me - at the moment i am on 2700mg Gabapentin and its worked wonders I lived for 5 years at 8 out of a pain score of 10 24 /7 Increasing the Gabapentin was the only drug that reduce the extreme pain. I am now sitting at 6 out of 10 per day I am at the severe end of Fibromyaliga But I know some people find Gabapentin doesn't work for them I guess sometimes it depends on trying different drugs Am also on a small dose of amitriptyline as well
