I miss the social life of going to work, catching up with my friends and enjoying the gossip and I miss the money, but I don't miss the pressure to get things finished or the hassle of trying to fit in the housework at weekends.

I miss the capable, enthusiastic, quick-witted and energetic me but I don't miss the office politics or car parking charges.

I am definitely enjoying my grandchildren who all live locally, the quality time I have with my husband and the chance to lie in on a gloomy winter's day, so I think I have come out on top with the swap.

I guess life is what you make of it. Yes, I am in constant pain and always tired, but what an opportunity to catch up on family life. Today, instead of a stuffy office, I have been in the garden with my three year old granddaughter as she enjoys the paddling pool. You can't put a price on that.
