Let me try this again, I'm a 46 year old woman, and I don't have regular periods and I'm extremely hot one minute and shivering cold the next minute and when I wake up in the morning my whole body hurts

Some conditions are comorbid with fibromyalgia having checks on Thyroid and possible Arthritis are some worthy of investigation by a medical professional which I am not one of.

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling so much and I would discuss this with your GP just to get any other medical conditions ruled out of the equation. As Ian says, there are many other illnesses that appear to run along with Fibro and these would need checking into first. It can take a while to get a Fibro diagnosis as the medical specialists do try and eradicate other conditions prior to a Fibro diagnosis. I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi yes. Click on your username at the top of the screen and then click 'profile'.

This will take you to your profile page. On the left hand side you will see the picture that you already have.

Click on this and it will say to edit the image.

You can then add whatever picture you want from your own computer.

Once you have done this scroll down to the very bottom of your page and click on 'Save changes'. And that's it!

I sincerely hope that you are well this morning? :)

There could be a problem with the site at the moment as it should take you to editing your pics and profile. Yes, you need a picture form your own gallery for it. I would try it later and see if it is workign then.

TheAuthor in reply to 1-luvBabs

I don't. I tend to have about 3 to 4 hours sleep from 5.30am onward and that's it. I have slept a little more recently due to a change in my medications but nothing substantial. :) :)

As u can appreciate sleep is vital for our bodies to heal, 3-4 hours is no way enuf. U must really feel it? Nites r so long wen u r awake & no one to chat to. I hope ur sleep improves evn if, by a couple mor hours wud make all th difference.

Hi ,one of the main features of fibro is hardly any sleep and by that I mean sometimes I never sleep ,Ithe most I ever have is around three hours .There are weeks when I can't sleep at all .I hurt a lot all the time .There are so many cross overt illnesses that you need to ask dr about its no good trying to guess .Hope you find your answers . And remember we are always here to share your burdens .

Hi

Given your age and that you say your periods are not regular it's possible that you are peri-menopausal. I suffered similar things around that age and didn't become fully menopausal until 51.

The only thing that throws me a bit though is the pain. As far as I'm aware that is not a typical symptom of the menopause. Personally it was during the time I was peri-menopausal that my ME developed to the point I am no longer able to work, so in my case the pain was nothing to do with the menopause. And I have since gone on to develop fibromyalgia too.

Given that hormones play a big part in the production of ATP (the bodies energy) and the brain chemistry ruling the immune system etc, it is perhaps not surprising that many women tend to develop or worsen ME, fibro and other similar conditions around menopause when hormones are severely disrupted anyway.

Having said that, the pain, especially morning pain and stiffness, and the inability to regulate body temperature are also classic symptoms of ME and fibro.

As the others are saying, there are many comorbid conditions that accompany both ME and fibro and whether you are menopausal and/or have some other condition I would strongly suggest you draw up a complete list of your symptoms and speak to your GP to get to the bottom of it. Obviously we are not medically qualified and can only discuss our own situations and give tentative suggestions for you to discuss with your GP who is the one who can diagnose. Whatever the issue is, it usually helps to get to grips with it sooner rather than later.

Good luck, I hope you get some sort of diagnosis soon.

Margaret. :)

As others have suggested, ask for blood tests for thyroid, B12, ferritin, folate and Vit D. Our thyroid controls a lot of bodily functions, including temperature. Low B12 often accompanies other things, including thyroid problems. It can also cause aches and pains, as can low VitD. A lot of doctors are happy to call it fibromyalgia if they can't be bothered to check on all these other things. If they've ruled all these out, then it probably is Fibro. Do hope you get more information/ help from your doctor. Best wishes MariLiz
